Prelisten on M-Audio Audiophile 2496 ??? does it work???

1st) can you do the mono trick since it only has one stereo out?

2nd) can you use the digital spdif connection as a prelisten with a set of digital headphones? and the stereo out as a main?

Oh believe me I tried every trick in the book, when I entered, last known good configuration, I got the same blue screen error, this was very very very bad corruption across the entire drive maybe even some low level areas.

And when I was done trying I even sat there for about 45 minutes to an hour ...

I agree faster is not always better, or the only factor to look at, I just hate the whole Mac/PC debate. I have worked on both Macs and PCs they both have advantages and disadvantages although in my opinion they are becoming less distinguishable.

The whole MAC's are faster with audio/video etc. argument loses ground when PC's are using brute force high cpu speeds to rip through processing cycles. I'm sorry but your new G4 Power Mac ...

They have a few different versions, and demos are available. There are other apps out there but this is the one I tried, its ok.

I setup RamDisk XP Pro on Windows XP Pro, created a 500mb RamDisk saved some samples to it, loaded up Live, set its temp file to the RamDisk, and loaded the samples from the RamDisk and it worked.

It's hard to visually see a performance increase, but when I loaded up a large bank of samples ...

Result for test 1: 2%
Result for test 2: 17%

with Reason via Rewire:
Result for test 1: 5%
Result for test 2: 30%

I have tried also, and I dont think it can be done, the manual says you might be able to use the rear outs on some cards but not all, I guess the audigy is part of the not all? But if you havent tried that, well try it because maybe I am doing something wrong? :P

What about the m-audio (midiman) cards? is anyone using one of those with a successfully with pre-listen?

I need brands and model numbers, I know you need more than one stereo out but even with this is so it seems sometimes live does not recognize these outs, so what cards does the pre-listen feature work well with?

Any external sound cards as well...

I run a sb audigy ex, the extigy is basically the same card just external, I am satisfied so far with its performance.

But, I have not been successfull at getting the pre-listen function to work with it, I might be doing it wrong but... and I think this is much to important of a feature to miss out ...
