You could use automation (dummy) clips on audio tracks.

They are silent wav files dropped into an audio track. Once you have that, you can add all the automation by "expanding the little "E" in the corner of the clip window" like mode:masters said.

Rig Kontrol 2 does NOT work as a MIDI Controller.

Rig Kontrol 3 does work as a MIDI Controller as long as you have the latest Guitar Rig 4.

+1 for GR. I use GR4 with Live and they go really well together.

That worked! After dropping GR onto audio track (and arming it) I was able to play my guitar through rig kontrol. Just being able to combine GR and Live gives an adrenaline rush.
