I've been using decks and a mixer again, for a couple years now.

It looked like they were really going to pay attention to rewarding physical mastery for awhile, but then Live kind of went the "add a zillion more options" direction instead.

If you entirely take away the concept of God from the Middle East, for instance, you still have self-interest and a scarce resource, so you still have people killing each other. Atheist regimes tend to be even more bloody than Theist ones. The problem is the nature of humans themselves. Religion is ...

Pop singers are not popular because of any real or alleged musical talent.

The difference between them, and 99% of the bitter geeks on the internet, is that they have charisma.

This is such a unique subject (is it completely unique in this regard?), since it's patently impossible for anyone to describe what's behind the universe in a "scientific" fashion. Maybe another subject like this is free-will, which is another question that has been debated for millenia an...

few quick thoughts: The guy in the Hummer was a jerk. That doesn't mean all Hummer drivers are jerks or that all conservatives are jerks. All liberals aren't whiners in a fantasy world, either. I volunteer lots of my time at an outreach/church in a famously gay neighborhood. AIDS, while certainly ra...

It's global.

When I first suggested a nudge implementation 4-5 years ago, I suggested that it be in the form of an "effect" that could either be applied to an individual channel or to the master out.

The more I study things, the more I suspect that we don't even know what we ourselves believe. All the signposts I see point in that direction. So, to answer the question -- I wager that the material world of cause and effect is only a small part of the story. rs edit - oh, and FWIW I also recommend...

Justice doesn't do it for me, personally though I don't mind them -- about the only "electronic" band I pay any attention to is Daft Punk and I've actually gotten a lot less interested in them the farther they've moved away from the "Live PA" sound. Their early stuff is a beautif...

One thing about the baggy pants/sagging thing, though, is that it has multiple bonding points. For instance, it intersects with the persistent bits of "skater" style that seem to hang around over decades, and manifest themselves in various styles of dress. (Now, even bits of it have wiggle...

This article mentions the origins of sagging as having to do with oversize prison uniforms, which is one of the explanations I had heard. I've also heard that the style developed from the wearing of oversized hand-me-downs by black youth. I'd be interested in knowing their citation, at any rate. I a...

The thrust of what she said makes sense, although it was said in a very clunky way. I've easily said stupider things on television than that in my lifetime.

I actually sold off my 2 sp-808s and DJ mixer when I got Ableton v1 because Abe did everything they did -- but better, and 10x more of it. I've come to realize, however, I prefer the relationship that I establish with a tangible instrument, even if it's only 1/10 as powerful. (Also, there's a certai...

I actually stopped using Abe a while back also -- went back to the trusty SP-808s. I still check the website as simple force of habit. For awhile I held onto it thinking I'd fire it up, but personally I never did. (YMMV of course.) I think HW does sound better, but not because of anything about the ...
