I'm really looking for more of a "jack of all trades" / only-reverb-I-use kind of reverb :)

Ambience

Free, very flexible and easy to tweak. And free. I use it all the time, so much so that I've never bothered to buy a better verb.

Because even if it's not a part of my life, it's a part of the culture, and I have to know how to deal with that. There is definitely an image associated with drug users (around my parts, at least), and there is definitely an image associated with those ...

I've got an Acer Travelmate 8200 and it's absolutely excellent for Live. Nice big widescreen too. You should be able to pick up a laptop of similar spec for your budget as I got mine a couple of years ago for QUITE A LOT OF MONEY:)

Not sure about the firewire chipset though - I use an Echo Indigo ...

I was so taken with the simplicity of it and my hardware synth has suddenly become all useful and fantastic again :)

So I guess that part of the idea is to give you functionality for which you would otherwise need a Virus TI?

Time.

Fitting in a full time job, looking after a gobby little kid and eating proper meals reduces my writing time to about 20mins a week.

It's very dispiriting when i have the ideas and the motivation.
