Use your old laptop to scan SETI data(SETI@home), who knows it could find an alien signal.

Re: What's The Most Realistic Text To Speech You Ever Used?
Vocaloid does virtual singing, I'm not sure if it functions as a text to speech just as well. http://www.yamaha.com/about_yamaha/research/vocaloid/ "VOCALOID-flex is an improved version of VOCALOID that includes the capability of synthesizing natural-sounding speech. Good speech synthesis is ev...

Re: Application to extract samples from audio files?
Try AudioSlicer
I use this on large samples, it chops them up (usually successfully) into chunks where the audio is silent.
Does the job for me pretty well

Re: audio files combined
This is from the ESI 4000 EMU sampler Is granular or spectral similar to this I don't know. "Transform Multiply This unique function merges two sounds together in a way that accentuates frequencies common to both sounds while discarding uncommon frequencies. Because of this characteristic, Tran...

Re: Build-in Wave Editor
I'm in the same boat as I don't like Audacity at all/ I use Wavepad but this is buggy as and crashes 75% of the time.
try this out Rogue Amoeba - Fission the demo fades and degrades the sound but it has a nice layout.

they have invented a new way of creating a true random number device at a quantum level
