I've wrestled with the UC-33 and documentation quite a bit (becoming much more MIDI-savvy in the process!).
First thing I'd check is which preset you're using for the UC-33, since it has a bunch. I think the factory default preset 33 is the best for working with Live, since it's got all the knobs ...
