Re: Importing Return tracks and master track from a project

+1000 Live not supporting this is a pain. I often need to merge two projects and at the moment it's just a nightmare if both of them use sends, or automation on the master track. I could avoid this by doing all master automation on a bus track instead, and using some Max silliness instead of proper ...

Omnisphere, Live and Dropbox = corruption?

Just scoping out if anyone else has encountered this issue. I'm not certain it's this combination yet, and have no wish to encounter the issue again so have not replicated it a final time to confirm. I always increment a number at the end of my .als file names every few minutes so that I have a vers...

iTunes deleting .asd files

Has anyone else encountered a problem where if iTunes is running when you're working with tracks in Live which live in the iTunes library, the .asd files get deleted from time to time?

Causes havoc with live - re-analysis occurring at random times, cutting off the music.

Re: help with track delay

A few thoughts here. If you're resampling audio from a track and the resampled result is delayed, then that implies that there is a plugin in the signal path that is delaying the audio output. If you're playing live, then that plugin is going to be a pain and you should eliminate it (perhaps by free...

Re: Sharpen an acapella

Won't be anything to do with the bitrate. 160kbit isn't exactly hi-fi but you shouldn't have problems with legibility. If top producers can get great results sampling old scratchy 78"s then you should be able to do an infinitely better job with a clearly recorded 160kbit MP3. This sounds more l...

Re: APC40 as DJ MIXER

Hoffman2k posted a rack on the hints & tips forum here: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=54296 which does a beautiful job. I use this all the time (although I mapped my APC40 knobs so that they peak at 0db, since without a centre marker on the knobs it was impossible to know when...

Re: Can you save groups as presets?

Icon on the top right of the group device - looks like a disk. That'll save the device, but not the MIDI data. To save a clip AND the group device, drag the clip to the library.

Midi-controlled VCA and/or VCF plugins?

I have a feeling someone's going to just say "max for live" or "reaktor" here, but does anyone out there know of VSTs that provide ADSR volume or filter frequency envelopes in response to incoming MIDI? I'd like to stack up synths in racks and then have them affected by exactly t...

Re: Learning curve for Logic and Ableton

Bear in mind that many consider the raw tones of Logic's built-in plugins to be sweeter, and I can vouch for the built-in instruments being much cleaner and authentic-sounding. However, that doesn't mean "better". I love Live's instruments for a bit of grit and as said above, racks and Liv...

Re: Live's reverb sounds like an indoor swimming pool

Only vaguely relevant, but interesting: A friend of mine who worked as an engineer in studios in the 70s, before decent hardware reverbs were commonplace (beyond springs) told me about one studio where there was an entire (huge!) room that they used for reverb. There were speakers and a mic in there...

Re: Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!

Reaper beats the shit out of Live for tracking and mixing. Live beats the shit out of Reaper for creative experimentation, sound mangling, and performance (of course). Reaper is a tape deck and mixer; Live is a sampler/sequencer/instrument. Simples. Yep, agreed. I've been playing around with Reaper...

Re: Tips for converting finished tunes for live performance

That helped loads actually! Tom Cosm's technique is actually pretty close to what I was doing, but it's the little refinements that turned what I was doing into something properly workable. Great stuff, thanks for that.

Now to start getting more ambitious.

Tips for converting finished tunes for live performance

Most people on here (at least the real live performance types) seem to compose specifically with live performance in mind, but I imagine there a lot of people that have the recorded music already and would relish the opportunity to break it down and play with it live. This is something at the forefr...
