Re: 1st Mic
Hi, if you are recording in a non treated room i will not bother with a condenser, they tend to pick up much more ambient than dynamics, might not work for you. on a budget : shure sm 57 , good all round microphone, you can get a decent sound on anything, just don't expect to be super bright or smoo...

Re: mastering plugins
in mastering it's better to go for the clean/transparent route, once on a while you need "that sound" tracks can give, but as a general rule it's better to stay clean and just "improve" the sound the mix already have. there are a lot of options to get a dirty/coloured sound, you ...

Re: mastering plugins
t-racks doesn't sound clean (transparent) enough for mastering to my ear. it's not an all rounder, tends to have a specific sound, while ozone it's clean, flexible and adaptable to any kind of music, plus the limiter and the dithering options are far more powerful than t-racks. the eq on ozone it's ...

Re: boundary mic recommendations ...
i love the cascade fat head (have 4 of them), get one if you can but it's not a boundry, it's a ribbon, totally different beast.
i have a radio shack boundry one (marked realistic) that does a good job, great at dirty drums with one mic.
crown are very good and natural sounding but expensive.

Re: mastering plugins

(i run a mastering studio) i use : Brainworks eq uad manley massive passive and pultec eq vertigo sound compressor sonnox limiter. those cover the most ...

Re: Any drummer who uses Live ?
it's the sound of the gen16 that i can't stand, sounds really hi pitched and not natural to me, i must be crazy but i prefer a plastic pad with a good sample from bfd on it, i can adapt to the feel of e-cymbals quite well, the hi hat is maybe trickier but... I also discovered that if the sound have ...
