Re: Suggest some monitors for around $1,000 usd
why would you want the smaller monitor? If you're asking that question, consider yourself lucky - you clearly have plenty of working space. I'm on the road a lot, so having the ability to pack the 8020's into a bag and stick them in a plane's overhead compartment is a big plus. They're also built l...

Re: Suggest some monitors for around $1,000 usd
I just spent a month in NYC shopping for monitors in this price range, looking specifically for the flattest, truest response and best imaging. My favorites in the end were: Dynaudio BM5A mkii Genelec 8020b I bought the Dynaudios, but after keeping them in my studio for 2 weeks, I decided I needed s...

Re: contemporary non-pop - "classical" music?
I've thought about this-- there is this kind of information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemporary_classical_music Thanks for the wiki link. I've never seen post-war music categorized in that way, it makes a lot of sense. The musicologists who taught me (during the 20th century) referred to it ...

Re: contemporary non-pop - "classical" music?
Is contemporary non-pop music also referred to as "classical"? In my language non-pop of all time is referred to as "serious", while classical is reserved to past, like Bach or Mozart. Yes, confusingly it is. I answered the OP question correctly. I didn't try to justify or expla...

Re: contemporary non-pop - "classical" music?
there's no hard answer for this, unfortunately. it's very much an open issue. technically, classical music refers to music from the "classical" period (i.e. post-baroque, pre-romantic). in common usage, though, "classical" refers to all eras of "serious" music, from gre...

professional opera singer, voice teacher, and voice researcher here. i'm pretty amazed at how all over the place these responses are. the misinformation and partial truths presented here really say something about how mysterious vocal function is to most people. honestly, i don't know where to begin...

sending midi cc automation from ableton to modul8
is it possible to send midi cc automation from live to modul8?
i managed to get modul8 to receive note on/off messages from live via midipipe, but i can't figure out how to do the same with cc automation.
and i can't find a manual for midipipe.
thanks in advance...

Re: OT: LED vs halogen strobe lights
thanks for the help, comrades. it looks like LED is the way to go, so i'm gonna go for the chauvet techno strobe st-3000, largely because of its low power usage and portability. before getting the strobe, though - there's another question i have about controlling it. i've posted it as a separate top...

OT: controlling strobe light w/ a speaker (ghetto midi->dmx)
project: video a dancer in a strobe light, with the strobe light flashing to the music at a custom-made (as opposed to constant) interval. lighting budget: $200 because the strobe is the only lighting element i foresee using, i don't want to invest in a midi-to-dmx converter. do you think it could w...
