I remember getting my dad a tub of Swarfega when I was about 10. He used to use it all the time, so my logic was that he would definitely want some more.

Yeah you can send your channels out of Ableton to the d4, though I guess if you have more than 3 you would need to group them together and send them out in pairs or greater. You can then use the 4th channel for scratching over the computer audio in real-time, and feed this audio back into Ableton if...

If I understand it correctly, you can do what you describe no problems, but in terms of monitoring you just need to make sure you mute the turntable audio in Ableton so it doesn't get fed back into the d4.Pro (assuming you just want to capture your scratching 'acapella' as an audio channel).

Yeah it's a shame they didn't put it in. You can do the same thing as what you currently do on your AEM-100i no problem, as you are effectively just recording the main out of your AEM. So one of the Firewire channels available for recording on the d4.Pro is the MAIN buss, so you can just capture tha...

If your equipment has a true safety ground connection, do not use a plug adaptor to defeat it. Doing so could be extremely serious (i.e. death) if the equipment develops a fault!

If your XP serial is a legit OEM serial, just call the number and get Microsoft to authorise it. They will do it over the phone no problems.

1280x800 is still widescreen - most laptops are widescreen nowadays aren't they? I'd rather they were still 4:3 but obviously I am in the minority.
Higher res obviously looks nice but I think would make DAW controls a bit painful on certain screen sizes.

How much pixel density do you want though on a 15.4" screen?
I wondered about this when I was buying. Maybe the next one up, but I think 1920x1200 would be too much for my poor old eyes.

I've got a 5720 Travelmate, it's pretty good though I could never get the DPC latency down to super low levels - meaning you may struggle to run your audio interface at extremely low sample sizes (depending on the quality of the drivers too I guess). I've also got ground loops between the laptop and...

I record my vinyl at 24-bit 44.1Khz, just so I don't have to worry too much about gain going into the soundcard. I actually think 16-bit would probably be o.k., as you don't really need loads of headroom given that most vinyl is mastered in a way that makes the levels very predictable - so there isn...

Red book is 16-bit 44.1kHz so that is the only way you will burn an audio cd.

If you want traditional dj'ing style emulation, Ableton is probably not the one to do it. I guess Traktor, Mixvibes, djDecks etc. etc. are the obvious choices for non-hardware proprietary options.

I'm sure there are plenty of happy users - it's just not something you find out until you have it running with your own personal setup. Firewire generally seems to cause more problems for audio than PCI/Cardbus type solutions. The Zero 8 is a really fun mixer though, typical Korg I guess. A bit flas...
