Re: DJ Mix Workflow Help

I guess what I meant to say when I said I find matching levels tiresome, was that I end up going through multiple iterations trying to get the levels perfect because you can revisit you mix again and again and again. I dont think I've ever done a full-length mix where I am 100% happy with all the ...

Re: DJ Mix Workflow Help

Assuming Platinum Notes is the problem, the I guess its easy to fix - stop using it!

Does anyone know if Izotpe Ozone's Loudness Maximizer suffers from the same problems then seeing as Platinum Notes licencse this tech to do the maximising? No point in buying that if it doesnt improve my situation ...

DJ Mix Workflow Help

I'm making DJ Mixes using Ableton Live 5.2.2 on running on my Windows 7 laptop.

I was just looking for any comments on my workflow, because I think I can hear distortion/clipping in the final mix, but as far as I know, nothing is running hot anywhere in the chain.

The mix is created and rendered ...

The only problem with this approach is it can be difficult to "see" where the kick is in the middle sections of the track because the waveform changes because of the number of other instruments playing at the same time.
What does it matter what it looks like? I warp with my ears instead of my eyes ...

Some tracks drift in tempo just because the producer wants it to be like that

Why would a producer do that? That just makes it more difficult to mix?

Also, the drift that I am seeing is more like the kind of drift that you get from ripping vinly, but because it's a digital download, I wouldn't ...

Kind of on the same topic, I've done a fair few mix comps in Live now, so I thought I new how to warp, but the latest set of tracks I've been working on seem to be giving me a lot of grief. Hopefully someone can explain why?

Previoulsy my mixes have been fairly commercial house affairs with tracks ...

Warping Corruption?

Hopefully somebody can help me.

I'm using Live 5.0.3 to do a DJ mix and for some reason the same 3 files in my set are slipping out of time because the 1st warp marker is moving from where I have placed and saved it. (creating an asd file for the track)

I've been working on the mix over a period ...

Cheers for the compressor solutions - I've tried them both but I have to agree with Harris.Andrew - I'm left with an un-natural sound.

Crossfade automation is something I've thought of before and tried.

For example - when the 2 tracks start to mix i put a breakpoint on the crossfade envelope and ...

Cheers Deft.

I am using bass e.q for the mixed parts of the mix - I kill the bass on the incoming track then bang it in while killing the bass on the outgoing track at the same time.

However, I need to use EQ4 for this as my version of Live doesn't have EQ3 (I read that EQ3 is comparable to the ...

Using The Compressor To Limit A DJ Mix

I have Ableton Live 2.1.2 Delta - the version I got free with my M-Audio Audiophile soundcard. While it doesn't have all the latest features, it still let's you do enough to do a basic DJ Mix.

The problem I have is that I want to emulate the dip on a DJ Mixer cross-fader when I have 2 tracks ...
