yes, the vs can still be useful sometimes (and as mixer), but outside accurate editing of samples live4 does all alone

Re: double bass

me too. waiting for an excuse to buy golden trinity/bass max mic-and-piezo pick up from Bob Gollihur in the US. long used a polytone pick up wired thru pre-amp and then a bass stomp box (Zoom), but still takes EQ and stuff to model sound anywhere near realistic. check out his web site, read the rep...

i'm also happy with my bcr2000, faders are not so important for me because the levels of the samples are already done. i prefer more rotary knobs. and the led on every know follows you also when you make changes with your mouse. for this reasons i find the bcr2000 perfect for me.... but you have may...

i have made the upgrade from 512 mb to 1024 mb last week.
i also had to take out the 2x256 memory bars but the result worths the price. live is from far more stable now, even with a 450 scenes set and some plugins.

i also use it sometimes for mastering and limiting.
i find also useful for boosting frequencies when i record a loop with a low volume, instead of using the parameters of live.
by my point of view it gives best results and charges less the cpu.

I'll 3rd the psp thingy. It's on everything I do. i also use this plugin, or sometimes the utramaximizer of waves. the best hardware mastering tool i know is the "finalizer" of tc electronics. so good and so expensive. had some tracks mastered through this machine and never heard somethin...
