I'm thinking of getting one as a first step into production and also to incorporate into a live set up - for e.g. triggering samples, adding basslines/percussion live to a Live dj set.

Are these recommended? Are there better (cheapish) alternatives? And does anyone know if I will be able to ...

Apparently the characteristic swirling sound in Another One Bites the Dust is generated by something called a harmoniser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_One_Bites_The_Dust

(I think it's probably been fed reversed samples to start with though)

Hi there, just wondering what people's techniques are for making transitions between tracks of very different tempo - suddenly rather than gradually changing tempo. The kind of things I've got in mind are sound effects / samples like a build up of noise that hides the change, or a winding up / down ...

just discovered it yesterday. it's got some really good stuff actually and is excellent value. i find the software smooth and fast too. the free trial gives you 25 tracks completely free - thought i would cancel after using these up but went on to sign up.

bit rate is below beatport - VBR usually ...

I've upgraded to Live 6 and now can't switch track previewing off - I think in 5 this was in preferences (I'm using OS X). Am I being really stupid and missing an obvious setting? Need to make sure it's off as I don't want to accidentally preview tunes in front of an audience.

does anyone know if it's possible to transpose continuously, or at least in steps smaller than a semitone? i find that the transpose function doesn't always allow me to mix two tracks together without it sounding dischordant.
