Re: live set - mixing in ableton versus mixing externally?
i read that the reverbs and compressors of the motu are supposed to be alright. i could do individual reverb and compression on the soundcard for each track but i guess i'll just test it instead of theorizing. im always a bit skeptical towards the arguments of better sound qualtiy. i think a lot of ...

live set - mixing in ableton versus mixing externally?
i just bought an external sound card / digital mixer, the motu ultralite mk3. i was wondering if there are any advantages of using the soundcards mixing capabilities i.e. sending each track (percussion/bass/lead/...) to an individual output of the soundcard and using the routing of the actual soundc...

the temptations - papa was a rolling stone (thomash remix)
hey guys, this is the first remix i'm fairly happy with. it came together quite naturally but i've only got headphones and crappy speakers to listen. can anyone give me any advice of what could be improved in terms of mastering and sound? general feedback would be really welcome too of course. i'm u...

live 8.2 CPU usage fine at start but reaches 100% over time
i've got a a live set with about 8 channels, a few vsts and a few of live's native synths. the problem i'm having is that when i start playing everything works fine at about 50% cpu usage but over the period of about 10 minutes cpu usage goes slowly up to 100% and audio starts dropping out. this is ...

Re: Audiio dropouts ONLY on stage
i'm going to buy a 16gb usb memory stick to use as ableton's temporary files folder. that should solve the problem of my hard disk overloading on stage when it decodes mp3s shouldn't it?

Re: Audiio dropouts ONLY on stage
i'm still having problems with dropouts too. for me mainly when i'm djing with live and add an mp3 track, during the decoding phase (mp3 to wave). it seems like the hard drive overloads or something. but only happens when i play in a club. i tried cushioning my laptop with a sweater underneath but i...

Re: Apreggiator
i wrote an arpeggiator vst that allows you to use a midi clip to define how the chord is arpeggiated. its great. its allowed me to separate chord progression from the execution of the song... a huge time saver

Re: Mixed In Key
rapid evolution works well for me. although recently i've become a fan of ugly dirty transitions again so i dont really use it at all. i've realised its all about track selection. i dont care that much anymore if two songs are 10-20 bpm apart. but then i'm not playing straight up minimal or tech hou...

Re: Was Jeff Mills really doing something?
your stereotype of someone turning knobs instead of moving vinyl is a nerd and not a real dj is a bit narrow minded. vinyl is already an abstraction of music, abstracting further into a digital medium does not make the difference between a "real" dj and a "nerd". a "real mus...

Re: Was Jeff Mills really doing something?
i find these melancholic posts about losing the art of beat matching a bit redundant. its the same thing over and over again. a new way of doing things comes up and people start moaning. i've seen really boring perfectly beat matched sets and i've seen reelly exciting wild and energetic ableton sets...

i liked ladytron at the start. but they're not that special. the live show i saw was really weak.
in my opinion zoot woman is very similar but more thoughtful, deep and less obvious.

Re: audio dropouts only when performing... puzzled!!!
WaveRider: for me it's totally unrelated to triggering clips. it will happen in the middle of a clip just as much. it does happen more if i'm browsing with the windows explorer at the same time.
