Re: Need help executing idea for music video
Thanks Tempus3er. Starting from scratch, I've tried following your methods and have got part of the way. But there's a couple of things I still don't quite get. First, I've got the audio track coming from Live going into two live.meter objects (one for each channel). I'm not quite sure what to do af...

Need help executing idea for music video
Despite having toyed around with it for a few years I'm a relative noob when it comes to all things Max so bear with me here. Basically, I'm doing a music video for an ambient tune that is very long and slow-moving. Variations in tone, frequency and volume shift at the pace of a lava lamp and I'd li...

Re: Sound Design, Mixing and Mastering For Film
Hey All. I'm just about to dive in the deep end and attempt to do the sound design, mixing and mastering for my Masters thesis film, which I've toiled over for the better part of a year. I have an intermediate knowledge of the theory and technique, having messed around with Ableton Live for a numbe...

Manual repair (for missing media files) isn't working
Time to call in the cavalry... I removed a large sample library because my hard drive was getting a bit crammed. Now I'm revisiting an old project and there are three missing samples. I pulled the exact samples from my other hard drive and have them sitting happily in a folder on my desktop. But Abl...

Re: How to use spiral ensemble in live ?
I've had very very good experiences with Spiral.
Try putting it on its own midi track and output the midi to relevant track. A nice place to start is with some simple sine tones in Operator.
Automating the scale can produce some pretty stunning arpeggiated sequences.

Re: Lo-fi Inspired by Antarctic explorers and dusty old vinyl
Thanks Slim. Actually I was tossing up whether to bring the chimes in earlier. I'll leave it as is for now but in future efforts - more chimes!

Creating insect-like voices for talking flies
I've been asked by a friend to help create some convincing and comical voices for talking flies in a stop motion short. After thinking about how to do this the best I could come up with was to pitch up normal speech a few semitones and then put a vocoder on the track channeling an external recording...

Re: Faking 5.1 Surround with Ableton
Thanks scientist, that's reassuring. I was wondering about the importance of the centre channel. The film I'm working on doesn't have any dialogou so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Still, how would you recommend I go about injecting something into the centre channel?

Re: Faking 5.1 Surround with Ableton
Wow. 3phase, thanks for the incredible insights and ideas. I'll be doing my best to put some of them to action. For others, it might take me a couple of days study to work out what it all means (I'm new to the surround mixing game :D) I decided my best option is touse the 4 outputs I have to mix wit...

Better way to transpose samples
I've always just used Ableton's transpose function in the sample display when making serious pitch alterations on my samples and it works OK. But a lot of stuff I've been listening to lately that makes use of a lot of pitch shifting (Burial, James Blake to be precise) seems to maintain fidelity bett...

Faking 5.1 Surround with Ableton
OK, so I've got myself into a position where I'm supposed to be doing a 5.1 surround mix, but am embarrassingly under-equipped. The project is an installation piece featuring a short film and accompanying surround soundscape. I don't have an interface with 6 outputs - I don't even have 6 speakers. I...
