I do not think it's a Live bug, I think it's a Reaktor bug.

Live 5 works fine on OSX 10.4.2. Mayby the problems come from Reaktor. Have you tried Live without Reaktor?

I use Live and Reason as a tandem. No crashes and a rack full of synth's, sampler's and fx's. Rewire is a better solution as VST or AU (plug-Ins could make Live crashing). I never had so much time for creativity before I used this tandem. But before you buy a programm get the demo and try them ...

I use Live 5 in combination with Reason 3on an iBook G4 1,2Ghz. And it is enough power for my projects. Live and Reason works without any bug. On a MAC it is important that you have enough RAM, because OSX needs a lot of it. SO, if you use a MAC be sure to have more than 512 MB RAM.

The best solution is to use Reason via Rewire. It does not make a big diffrence as using a plug-in. And Rewire needs not many system resources, most time a plug-in needs more resources than Reason/Rewire.

Of course they are protected. If not no Label will give Apple the rights to sell the music. But there is a simple way to make them useable: make playlists and burn them as an Audio-CD. Then import them into Live.

I think it is a typical M-Audio problem. Sometimes I had to reinstall the Quattro-Driver forth times before it works.

I use Live in combination with Reason. It is a good team and very easy to connect Reason via Rewire with Live.

But: when you use Acid for years and like this progarmm, why would you switch to another program? It make no sense for me. Reason is a very good Softstudio with good Synth, Sampler and FX ...

I use a three year old iBook (G3 500 Mhz) and uses Live in combination with Reason on it. The advantage of a MAC is that the OS and the computer comes from one company. So OS and computer works better together.
My iBook is silent, you can't hear a noise.

Take a look at www.digitalfishphones.com. The fish-filets plug-ins are good tools for OSX.

All what was said about the Quattro in this thread is right: the driver on CD are useless, but the ones you can download are very good. The first series was MAC-only because there was a problem with some USB-ports on Windows PCs.
