Re: Group Buy: Aether Reverb

In my opinion it is a different beast to Altiverb ( only IR) an not comparable. For sure. IR and algo reverbs are as different the way samples and other types of synthesis are different. Altiverb has an amazing, well engineered 'sample' library that makes it special. Aether feels like it's innovati...

Re: Group Buy: Aether Reverb

It's not an IR verb but the early reflections part of the signal chain is sort of a nod in that direction. There is sort of a premium set (20 or 30 or something like that) of early reflection 'spaces'. The processing is algorithmic in nature but different spaces are not at all like simple adjustment...

Re: Group Buy: Aether Reverb

Time is running out on this! The 26th is the last day to join in, the price is already down to $150, this is a fantastic deal compared to what the price will be soon. Andrew Souter at Galbanum / 2CAudio has been really attentive on KVR, handling himself well, speaking honestly and openly about the s...

Re: hints for device browsing

You can save presets (including vst/au plugs mapped to racks) in a folder somewhere and set that as a default spot for one of your numbered browsing areas (below the abelton devices tab, vst/au tab on the upper left of the UI). The particular way I did it was to create a folder in the Library/Preset...

Re: Group Buy: Aether Reverb

I really like this reverb. It feels like there's something really alive in all the places where I usually expect to hear problems. I think they said they had 50 people on it after just a couple days, this is the pricing scheme: > 050 : $174.95 > 100 : $149.95 > 200 : $124.95 > 400 : $99.95 Current p...

Re: Novation launch biggest music product of 2009?

Actually from the wording of the press clipping, I'll speculate that it really is some April Fool's thing that makes sound and is very large.

Re: nudging drum hits for that loose and live sound

You'd probably have to read the L8 manual to get a comprehensive discussion, but basically grooves transform the timing of a clip the same way 'swing' does - only it's based on a short MIDI (or audio) clip. So if you have a 'groove' that's got some lazy snares on 2/4, but some tricky hats on top of ...

Re: nudging drum hits for that loose and live sound

Two options:

* Cmd+Click (I'm assuming Ctrl+Click on PC/Windows) when resizing a MIDI note doesn't snap
* Cmd+4 (Ctrl+4) turns snapping off on the grid, so you can shuffle notes around without snapping

In Live 8, 'grooves' are really steroids for this kind of thing.

You could use the velocity section of the arp to synthesize something similar to the alternating up/down strokes, this is part of the sound. I would set the velocity to decay to a pretty low value over 200 or 300ms, retriggered every 1/8th note while the arp goes at every 1/16th note; you'll get alt...

ok, this might be a dumb question, but wouldn't a good graphics card take some of the cpu load off of graphics processing? It depends on what routines you use. Generally good graphics cards are designed to be very fast at some fundamental operations for rendering polygons (well, triangles) and text...
