Soooooo, can I get my hopes up to like Star Wars again?

Because we know what happened last time:

Re: Argh! New Desktop, Shocking Track Count

Thanks cotdagoo. I'll give that a go. Unfortunately, it might take some time. As I've moved, I now have an operating system not in my native language, and apparently you only get one installed language with Windows 7 home. Seemed like a good idea to help improve my German at the time, but I didn't t...

Re: Argh! New Desktop, Shocking Track Count

What are your power settings? High Performance? Balanced? Battery Saver? Could be the bios settings for speedstepping running your cpu below spec? ie.. what have you done/not done to a fresh install to prepare it to be an audio workstation? I'm on high performance through windows system settings. O...

Re: Argh! New Desktop, Shocking Track Count

Hi Tarekith. Thanks for the quick reply. I just checked with built in audio using direct x / MME. Arguably a little better at 6000 samples latency (default), but I'm still getting CPU up to 75%, with my 2 ACE instruments on new track. And also just about playing one of the old ones. I don't really k...

Argh! New Desktop, Shocking Track Count

I've just splashed out on a new PC desktop. Theoretically, it should wipe the floor with my old one (which is now toast) but I'm getting CPU spikes and glitches after only 3 or 4 tracks. On my first project of the new computer, I overloaded the CPU with one kick drum, 2 instances of U-He's ACE (one ...

Re: Blurred Lines

What the Hell? Everyone has to be totally original now? Not that I'm a great fan of marketing songs about date rape with pornographic videos to impressionable teens, or anything. What a crappy precedent to set. I'm sure Marvin would be proud of his family. FFS, read his Wikipedia page: Influences As...

Yeah, they get a bit painful after a while.

But as the man says, "no pleasure is verboten". It's all a matter of taste.

Ooh err.

Sharleen Spiteri?

Cool. I kind of fancied her back in the 90's. How's she looking now?

Re: The music album - does it still have its place?

Excuse me, while I get on my high horse about why I still listen to whole albums and don't flick from one track to another: I can't be bothered to get off my arse to change tracks every 5 minutes. The computer is over there, and I'm over here with a nice G&T. 60-70 minutes is a nice amount of ti...

Re: Which book(s) would you like to see turned into a movie?

One or more of Ian M Banks' Culture novels maybe?

Consider Phlebas is a good place to start.

Excession was very good too.

Also, I don't know if any of his non sci-fi stuff that has been made into film. Can't see why not?

I don't know how it could possibly translate to film, but for what it's worth:

Re: The conspiracy conspiracy

I do like a good conspiracy theory. My favorite at the moment is this nice little set of non binding, completely voluntary guidelines the UN came up with. All vague stuff about how it would be good to not let people get too poor, and try not to fuck up the planet so much, etc, etc. Everyone signed, ...
