Is it possible for a 3rd party software to get clip position or the audio level of a track from live? So one could.. say.. look at their launchpad and tell where the clip is in its loop? The Automap can be irritating at times but there is a pretty recent howto for using the Nocturn with Live's MIDI remote scripting which will allow you to control whatever rack has focus. That and the launchpad would give me as many buttons and knobs (Plus a crossfader!) as I need.

Specs? Anything else that could be helpful? Mine (Nocturn) works perfectly under XP with Live 7.0.3. Personally I would get your head wrapped around configuring the embedded midi server first and then go about clearing and remapping your favorite vsts afterward. FWIW I have a "Mixer" page ...

I use an m-audio conectiv it has 2 stereo pair outs, 2 stereo pair ins and a headphone out that is mixable between the outputs. It also has split cue. Also, even if it's not specifically clipping you might want to pull everything down to -6 or even -10 depending on the type of song.
