Clip position and audio level output?

Is it possible for a 3rd party software to get clip position or the audio level of a track from live? So one could.. say.. look at their launchpad and tell where the clip is in its loop? Or get an idea of the audio level by looking at a basic meter displayed on the launchpad? Is this possible with M...

Re: If you had known about Launchpad would you have bought APC?

The Automap can be irritating at times but there is a pretty recent howto for using the Nocturn with Live's MIDI remote scripting which will allow you to control whatever rack has focus. That and the launchpad would give me as many buttons and knobs (Plus a crossfader!) as I need.

Re: Automap 3

Specs? Anything else that could be helpful? Mine (Nocturn) works perfectly under XP with Live 7.0.3. Personally I would get your head wrapped around configuring the embedded midi server first and then go about clearing and remapping your favorite vsts afterward. FWIW I have a "Mixer" page ...

Nocturn: Map that fader!

I recently bought a Novation Nocturn. I really love it, for controlling VSTs it is absolutely wonderful. But I've been trying to figure out a rock solid work around for the lack of the ability to easily control certain things within live. I think if pushed enough Novation might come up with a fix f...

I use an m-audio conectiv it has 2 stereo pair outs, 2 stereo pair ins and a headphone out that is mixable between the outputs. It also has split cue. It's not the least expensive but it's definitely not the most expensive either. You can mono all of the ins/outs inside ableton if you want to use it...

From my perspective I'd go for a simple Max patch which acts in between your controller and the VST. But I guess PD or Bidule maybe even Midi-OX could be used. You'd also have to use a virtual midi port like Midi Yoke or IAC. .m the fact you dont have the option to set keyboard button behaviour in ...

All this is very good.. modeled instruments are getting more realistic though. I just found a demo for "open guitar" vst. Sounds very realistic and does strumming better than other vsts I've heard. Costs $40 USD though. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a difference between model...

Thanks for the response. I think there's more to it than that. My mixes sound weak compared to Christmas music from the 60's! I must be missing something. Artfully compress or sidechain the weak parts. if it's the kick thats low maybe give that some compression, but compressing the master is someth...

There's a good argument for having your tracks at the same level as the rest of the (majority of) the music industry. Purists and assholes on this forum will tell you to not participate in the loudness wars or not to use compression. But if you find that your tracks are quiet and this is something ...

Also, even if it's not specifically clipping you might want to pull everything down to -6 or even -10 depending on the type of song. Lots of DnB artists level at around -10 this way you absolutely will not get clipping. You also might be getting intersample clipping but i think that only happens wit...

I have to add a fourth example. Now, there's this dude called Girl Talk . He uses obvious musical pieces and unmodified acapellas to make his songs. One song can include 6 different rappers, britney spears, 80's indie rock bands, 90's big beat techno, the final countdown and a bunch of known hooks....

+1 to his confusion.

I don't think you can set this option for vst's. I've bashed my head against walls for a solution to this as well.

If you want to you can put an eq8 on the channel and try to eq out all of the other stuff. The complexity of doing this is going to vary wildly depending on the source material. If you hear an instrument that sounds like it's in one frequency range, the truth is that it's probably got harmonics in ...
