Point of clarification: installed the file from the disk directly. Since deleting the .cfg file, I have no problems this afternoon. Just wanted to highlight the event. Thks!

This was a terrible waste of my hour troubleshooting this and documenting issue. Shouldn't have to spend time frittering with installation problems…but here goes (using Mac OS)
1. Copied file from boxed set DVD
2. Error message after clicking the Live 9 icon: Ableton Live 9.0/Preferences.cfg ...

Has anyone experienced problems with an upgrade from Live 7 to Live 8 -after deleting the Live 7 root folder? If so, what files have you kept in order to run the live 8 upgrade version without Ableton searching for the prior edition?

Good point! Use the 14 day version and its tutorials to gauge your preference. That's what I did before purchasing 7 in December 2008. Weighing the benefits of Live 8 before opening the Live8 upgrade boxed edition.
