I just finished a new track in 8.1, and when I export as a 24 bit file the file size is unusually small for a 24 bit file. Are you eq'ing your tracks? A kick or snare or hat might sound terrific on its own, but in a mix you'll have to eq it to make it work with the rest of the track.
