Re: Ableton 9 suite Disk overload with core i7, SSD and 16GB RAM

Regarding RAM.... I see that as mainly meant to store relatively short samples you will use over and over. 1 bar phrases, sound fx, one shot samples, etc. probably not a good place for long audio stems, IMHO

Re: Ableton 9 suite Disk overload with core i7, SSD and 16GB RAM

Should be no need to put the samples in RAM. You probably have plenty of disk bandwidth using SSD.

Re: Productivity Monster Audio Workstation Build

As stated in my signature, I have an i7-7700 with 16 GB ram, 256GB M2 and a 2TB HDD and it runs smoothly on all my arrangements. speaking of intel, i've stumbled on at least a couple of articles that point out some problems with new generation AMD for DAW use (or rather, worse performance than new ...

jestermgee, that's good to know. I am more of a PC-user at heart, plenty of ingrained muscle memory over the years to where the PC interface feels second nature, whereas Mac always takes a bit of reorientation for me.

Artutech, thanks for the feedback! You've got me back to seriously thinking about the iMac again. I too don't really have much time for hassle. What I do have are CPU/ram hungry VSTs!

Productivity Monster Audio Workstation Build

I'm considering a new PC to replace my DAW. At first I was targeting iMac Pro, but I see this article had some interesting advice for building your own PC, listed below. Don't really have a budget limit at this point, just looking for something that can run multiple high power vsts (u-he synths, spe...

Re: Max for Cats – OSCiLLOT

super exciting! by the way i had been eyeing your product for a while and what finally won me over was the sound character of some of your most recent demo videos. one of your filter demos had a surprising attitude and bite!

Re: Max for Cats – OSCiLLOT

christian, great to hear back! i've been thinking about your design, and people's complaints about "8 macros" being a limitation... that never seemed a limitation to me. rather what stuck out to me is that some modules are more hard-wired than others (for example the drums). it would be ve...

Re: Max for Cats – OSCiLLOT

im liking this. but i can't open the bleep34 patch. it shows load progress that gets stuck at about 95%. other presets open.

granulator effect could be interesting with modulation destinations.

Re: Time & Timbre crashes

It's exciting that this pack is getting attention from sbx! Your free drum m4l device from years ago was brilliant so that led me to try TnT. Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as other users, in that I am wrestling with malfunction. I have been in talks with Ableton support to get this working on m...

Re: Lets Talk Tuner

This discussion really grabbed my attention. It's only recently that M4L has really started to frustrate me. Like many of you I loved the concept originally, but now I find myself facing quality control and version management problems (I don't build M4L devices, I just buy them or use freebies). Stu...

Re: Detroit House classic sound

another old school technique is to play a chord with a synth, run through some effects (like chorus, flanger, reverb, delay, etc.) -- you play that chord or single note and sample that sound with the effects fused into the sound. Then play melodic passages with the sampled sound instead of the synth...

Re: Why use maschine vst with Ableton?

I use it so that two people can work on an ableton track simultaneously and keep the maschine work saved into the ableton set. Mostly jamming, one on machine, one on ableton. Later on, when ideas work, the brute force way is to record machine straight into audio clips in ableton. This can be a way t...
