let us know what kind of music you want to have a go at making.
will it be mostly, or exclusively made in the box,, ie,, just using softsynths,,
or do you envision your self wanting to record entire orchestras?

I've been using Live since 4 and it's mostly used for live djing and performances.
I've never actually made my own music before and am really getting serious about starting out. I've never used Ableton for this, but feel I could pick it up and get to work with it.

Whenever I broadcast a set I do in ableton, I use a piece of software called Nicecast from Rogue Amoeba. It hijacks the master audio and streams it without affecting the actual audio out in any way.

depending on how your setup is, I'd just assign a fader or knob to the master tempo. Make sure your tracks are warped and then as you turn the knob, the master tempo will go up or down.

I use a MacBook and an audiophile FW as my setup. It's great. I've tried using the internal audio but I was getting so much grounding noise that it wasn't worth it. No matter what I used, ground loop isolator - even tried removing the earthing pin on the plug - I'd still get the grounding noise.
