Re: Mac system opinions, please
The B&H system comes with a 7200 rpm internal and I'm planning to use an external 7200 rpm for samples. IF I start running into problems, I can buy a PCI-E SSD and the local Mac repair shop will install for $129 (or I'll do it myself if I'm feeling brave/lucky). Alternately, Adorama has the same...

Re: Mac system opinions, please
Thanks Division Monarchy. Last night I discovered the same thing. Found a NIB late-2013 27" iMac at B&H for about the same price as the system I posted. It's a 3.2 GHz quad i5, not i7, but the newer model probably compensates. Only 1 internal 7200 rpm drive, but I can have that replaced wit...

Thanks for the replies everyone.
smutek, that 2013 iMac is tempting. An official Apple refurb would be nice. Less risk...but less bang for the buck.

Re: Mac system opinions, please
Thanks for your replies.
Can't I just upgrade the OS? Or would I run into potential conflicts with the hardware? I'm a PC guy...backwards compatibility isn't usually an issue. My media server is a 10-year old XP machine I upgraded to Windows 8.

Mac system opinions, please
Setting up a DAW with Suite 8 after a 5 year hiatus, but using a Mac for the first time. I like the refurb system below (3rd party vendor, not Apple) and would love some Mac user opinions before laying out $1200. I use Live to write/record: cut vocals/AC guitar with mics and an ISA One, use some Sui...

Re: Your sincere opinion PLEASE!
IMO, the melody is perhaps a little complicated for popular genres. I suspect the number of notes, jumps, and syncopation wouldn't stick in the average person's head for very long. But that's just my perspective on "melody" as a singer/songwriter who targets popular genres :). As a "t...

Re: Live for traditional recording
Thanks to all for the kind words, and my apologies for being so slow to reply--RL is thoroughly unsettled at the moment. :-) That is simply the BEST tuneage I have ever heard on this forum... Wow, and thanks. From a user with 2000+ posts, those are very kind words. I like how everything is panned in...

Live for traditional recording
I started using Live (Suite) exclusively as my DAW front-end. Here's my first 'completed' track done entirely in Live: http://www.newtsoup.com/ableton/InHere.html It's very traditional compared to what I've heard here. :D In any case, your thoughts are welcome on overall sonic quality, production, a...

Installation question
I'm upgrading from Suite 7 boxed to Suite 8 boxed. I went ahead and installed the download version a few weeks ago, in advance of receiving the new boxed version via mail. But now that the boxed version has arrived it's not clear to me if I need to install anything from these disks. There are 4: Liv...

Re: Explosives Found in World Trade Center Dust
It is entirely reasonable to ask if the collapse of the WTC Towers was a planned implosion b/c that's exactly what it looked like. However: Please present me with one piece of observable science that backs up any of NISTS claims. That is not how it works. Science requires parsimony: period. Any theo...
