Instrument Rack with several chains and Live API

Hi all,

two threads i started earlier both led me to the use of instrument racks, although the threads were about two different needs (that's nice, two birds with one stone)

Re: turn off all devices in a track via Live API, how to?

Good to know, well the x-port works fine if i only have instruments in the rack (like many instances if a grand piano).. then i have a single reverb in a return track, everything works as expected :)

Re: turn off all devices in a track via Live API, how to?

Will keep that in mind Robert, thanks, good to hear there will be no cut off in case i move to the next chain while the previous is still releasing some signal , as that might happen in some cases..
I have a good cpu (intel i7 960), but for sure I will squeeze it properly with this project i am ...

Re: turn off all devices in a track via Live API, how to?

Dear Robert

you are so right, i just discovered about instrument racks, and that's definetly the best way to go :) thanks a lot for the hint!

btw (correct me if i'm wrong) if i move the chain selector from chain 1 to chain 2, and chain 1 was still generating some sound, the signal won't be cutted ...

Re: multi panning within a single instrument track, possible?

Dear Christian,

thanks a lot!

i didn't know about instrument racks (what a shame), but now i know, and this opens up a new world of possibilities.
Just finished reading the documentation, and i should be able to allocate the midi to the chain i want using the chain select zone.
I will have to ...

Re: multi panning within a single instrument track, possible?

Thanks Christian,

so if i want such a device i should build it myself using maxforlive, as there is no native Live device like this (if i get it right).

I want to try, can you give me some hints about how to approach it?
Also i would need this device to work with the samples from the Essential and ...

Re: multi panning within a single instrument track, possible?

Hello Christian,

first of all thanks for the quick reply.

Not sure if i was clear enough, but just to clarify i don't want to change the main pan depending on the midi note, that wouldn't work because

if a midi note triggers a certain panning, the next note would trigger a different panning and ...

multi panning within a single instrument track, possible?

Hello,

here i am again with another question, btw sorry if i'm creating an average of one topic per day, but as you can imagine i'm discovering new things constantly, and audio is for me a completely unexplored field.

what i'm asking for is something probably unusual, and could be something ...

Re: turn off all devices in a track via Live API, how to?

thanks for the reply bencodec,

well the arm button does not support automation anyway, so i'd need a maxforlive device in any case right?

regarding the possibility to set record arm to function like a solo button, it wouldn't work in my case as i'm not alone, i'm playing with another guy (sorry i ...

Re: turn off all devices in a track via Live API, how to?

@pid it's ok, no need to apology, maybe at some point there will be a single maxforlive forum and everyone will be happy.

getting back to my problem, since turning off the devices is useless, i'll have to control the monitoring of each track;

basically my situation is the following:

i'll play ...

Re: turn off all devices in a track via Live API, how to?

Damn i was wasting time, seems like Live does that automatically. If a device is not computing anything, it is automatically excluded from Live calculation.
In fact if i create a track with something like 15 devices, if nothing is playing the cpu usage is the same, no matter if the devices are on ...
