Re: Video rendering - why does it look like crap?

Hi, I haven't tried this yet in v8 but I assume this is the same as I've experienced with Live 7. It appears that when you render a movie from Ableton it re-compresses the video. That's it. I haven't figured out a way to get it to not do that either. My workaround: Render the audio only out of Live,...

Re: Best bang for your buck monitors

For about $300 you can get the KRK Rockit 5". I use them and like them a lot, money well spent in my opinion.

They kick the crap out of my old NS-10s. When I heard some bottom end for the first time from the KRKs, I was hooked.

Re: I need an audio editor for OS X...

I like Peak LE. It's very simple to use (as any audio editor should be), and a pretty good value.

Re: Consolidating video clips

I can't speak for Live 8, but v. 7 re-renders video clips when you export. So you lose a lot of quality over the original. My favorite tool for combining video clips or marrying audio to video is Quicktime Pro. It's about $20 if you don't have it already. You simply select your in/out points, then c...

I have the FA-66 and it sounds great. The DAs are better than my Line 6 Pod X3 (I'm a guitarist primarily).

Re: In-ear headphones

I used the Etymotics ER 6 for a long while and found that they were worthy of mixing on. Better (when you factor in the comfort and portability) than any headphones I'd used prior to that, including some of the AKG and Sony behemoths.. I also used the Etymotics to commute and on airplanes, where I t...

Re: Copyrighting Your Music

Registering your copyright with the US Copyright Office is easy. You can do it all electronically from here: https://eco.copyright.gov/eService_enu/start.swe You don't need to pay for each song individually. You can copyright a full album as a collected work and make each song a subset of that work....

Dolphins are by far the coolest thing I see here in north county San Diego. I see them quite often, more in the winter months. They ride waves, its nuts! Turtles, rabbits, lizards, crazy spiders too... no sharks (yet)...

Re: Izotope Ozone vs T-Racks 3

Another vote for Ozone. I'm a fan. The key is to not overdo it with compression and other effects. You can get great results with a little research and experimentation. Good luck.

Re: Quality of movie rendering - Live 7.14

Sorry if I misread your original question. From what I can tell, we don't really have any control over the way that the video quality appears once its already within Live. It is possible (though I'm not sure) that Live might employ some kind of on-the-fly preview compression. Video preview windows a...

Re: Quality of movie rendering - Live 7.14

You are recompressing the movie which was already compressed when you imported it into Live. That's why it looks bad in comparison. I don't know if there's a way to tell Live to "pass through" the video portion of the movie without recompressing. What you want Live to do is basically make ...

The US Copyright Office has a convenient online application now (assuming you're in the US?).. You can upload mp3s and submit electronically. Also you don't need to send $20 per song or whatever it is, you can just submit a collected work and list all of your songs as components of that work. It tak...

I agree that its weird that no-one seems to have implemented this yet. (Not just Ableton but all of the DAW makers). I posted about this recently in another thread, about how Opcode Studio Vision was one program that seems to have done that right. I too would love to see a step sequence (and step-au...

Funny how there is really nothing out there now that can compare with the Session View in Live. After all these years of DAW development, only Ableton was able to successfully advance the workflow that musicians want to follow - not simply a glorified tapedeck like Pro Tools, etc. To my (limited) kn...

Perhaps I shouldn't mention my old 1/2" Otari 4 track and the 1/4" Scully 2 track... Those went straight to the garbage a few weeks ago! Was kind of on the fence about the Scully because the pres are pretty sweet, but again.. I don't need it and I couldn't find it a good home! And my 1970s...
