Yes I am unsuccessful in getting anything out of Looper..and I am experiencing similar weirdness as you described.
I am using:
I7 MBP
OSX 10.6.8
Live 8.2.8.

So what happens to you all when you try the built in audio? The same?

I have been using live in lion (Live 8.2.7) and have not had any dropouts like you mention, but I have noticed that it does take some time when I hit "solo" on a track, before it actually solos it...

I downloaded and installed the current versions of MFL after the 8.1.b3 pair expired and now MFL 8.1.b4 refuses to open. I tried deleting relevant prefs and application support files... still crashing!

I just read thru this thread and you do pose a valid question, that is a basic hang up when I have tried to get fluid control of Live with some of my MIDI controllers. The lack of momentary switching on the host side is sometimes problematic.

does anyone know if there is a way to make Ableton Live automatically open any/all of the windows for the plugins that are saved with a given Live set?

For instance,when opening a LIVE SET that has plugins saved in it I must always then manually open the plugin windows ...

Also worth mentioning,
a passive DI is an isolation/impedance transformer in a mertal box with a couple of jacks and hopefully a switch or two.
Radial, a company out of Canada makes an excellent range of DI's, notably the passive model that uses 'Jensen" transformers.
Certainly audiophile grade ...

for our purposes any DI with a ground lift switch will do.
To reiterate, have you tried your setup with "only" connecting the laptop, the echo indigo DJ(with just one of the outputs going to the DI) and then an XLR(3 prong mic cable) cable to the PA?
