Re: iPad - Which one to go?

It seems that the iPad 4 benefits from better processing power overall, not just regarding graphic performance : http://www.anandtech.com/show/6472/ipad-4-late-2012-review/3 Maybe it is overkill, and maybe the iPad 2 would be just fine for your use, though. Have you tried Audiobus on your first gen ...

Re: ableton noob, recording Keyboard as audio...

Is the driver for your audio interface installed ?

In Live, Options > Preferences > Audio tab, can you select your interface (in front of "Audio peripheral") ?

Re: Any other users using Ableton as a guitar rig live?

Reading around, it sounds like the Motu Zbox is for people using cheapo sound cards? I have a TC Electronic Konnekt 8, with instrument inputs - would it make any difference? it's for impedance issues my guitar interface is a vg-99 so i don't need it but others might I'm not quite sure. It says it r...

Re: Any other users using Ableton as a guitar rig live?

For impulses, just try LeCab2 . Don't hesitate to use multiple IRs after the amp. Generally, I use two mics close to the speaker, panned slightly apart (say 30% left and 30% right), and two ambient/room mics panned hard left and right. Adjust levels to your taste. It really allows the sound to "...

Re: Any other users using Ableton as a guitar rig live?

According to them, yes. Personally, I doubt it. Dialing the input levels properly (on the hardware & software level) is imo way more crucial to achieving a good tone/feel than a little loadbox like that. But it's priced just low enough to make you think "it might not be the magical thing I'...

Re: Any other users using Ableton as a guitar rig live?

best part is that unlike stomp boxes or stomp multifx, you can use your high-end fx on your guitar... one of my chains includes black76, iieq pro, rp-delay, and valhalla shimmer, each one of which is far better than most stomp boxes or even most of what's in amplitube/pod farm. Actually, the highly...

Re: Any other users using Ableton as a guitar rig live?

I have Guitar Rig (got it for free thanks to the NI deal, having bought a KA6), and although it can be quite convenient and has some good presets, I'm not sure it's worth the full 179€ they ask for. It has a ton of presets, some are good, some are meh. They are well-ordered, which is really convenie...

Re: Library on System SSD?

I leave them on the SSD. For me, there is no point in putting the library on the SSD if project loading is still slowed down because some files remain on a HDD ;) Even if you record a lot of audio (several gigabytes each day) in your projects, SSD endurance should not be a problem. The Crucial M4 ca...

Re: Library on System SSD?

Get either the 830 or the 840 Pro . The 840 uses a different kind of memory with lower endurance. And there might be problems with the current firmware of the 840 & 840 Pro (unless Samsung already fixed it), so the 830 should be the safer bet (it's still an excellent SSD, and is currently one of...

Re: Those damned F keys in Live...

Yes, this should work with any version of Windows, actually "Afx:00400000:0:00000000:01900015:00000000 " is the name of the Ableton window, not of a Windows variable. It that does not work, use the AU3_Spy.exe file (in your AutoHotKey install folder) to monitor your mouse/keyboard/window f...

Re: Those damned F keys in Live...

To modify the behavior of the F keys in Live, just add the following to your AHK script file : #IfWinActive, ahk_class Afx:00400000:0:00000000:01900015:00000000 F1:: F2:: F3:: #IfWinActive This will change the way the F keys behave only in Live, thanks to the #IfWinActive, ahk_class Afx:00400000:0:0...

Re: Those damned F keys in Live...

You can use AutoHotKey to either disable them in Live or assign something different to them.

Yes, it adds an utility running in the background, but AHK is worth it.

Re: anyone using SSD as their main drive? Mine keeps disapearing

This cannot be an overheating problem.

Can you provide details (manufacturer & model) of your SSD and motherboard ?

Some SSD are known for being quite buggy, some are very reliable. Maybe you just picked the wrong one.

Re: 4GB RAM or 8GB RAM?

RAM is cheap. Get as much as you want, but not on the Apple Store. A two-4 GB sticks RAM kit costs $50. Get a MBP with 4 GB, then buy a 8 GB kit and install it yourself (or ask a friend to do it) if you find ou you really need more than 4 GB.
