Re: Setting up Roland Aira's with albeton
Just use audio cables to connect the System-1 into the TR-8 external in? I'm not sure but I think you should be able to select the external in as an input on the TR-8 also.

Re: rough "warehouse techno" sound
Another useful thread:

This style uses lots of big hall reverbs and one of the few that uses reverb on the kick (sometimes). Also lots of overdrive/bitcrushing etc from memory.

Re: Ableton Online Training
For Ableton training, I highly recommend Keith from Quantize Courses at www.quantizecourses.com. High standard of tuition, personalized video feedback on your assignements along with a weekly chat and a very nice guy to boot. Also way cheaper than either SAE or Berklee. You lots learn about Ableton ...

Re: Raw Groove / Chicago House / Techno House (not tech house!)
You might want to try a bitcrusher across some of your samples to give them that 'old sampler' sound.
Try 112DB Morgana, or D16 Decimort.

I didn't rate Spark at first but after seeing the video it looks very cool. I love the FX ribbon and sequencer.

Re: if live 9 is not 64-bit...
I use memory intensive plugins. BFD2, Omnisphere, Trilian and Kontakt. Since I started using these, Live has become effectively unusable for me. It constantly crashes and there have been all sorts of clicks and white noise explosions since the recent mainteanance release. Unfotunately I've had to sw...

Re: FXpansion Geist (GURU 2) - NI Maschine killer ???
This is now a very crowded market Maschine, Geist, Stylus RMX, RMV, BPM, BeatStation, Nerve. It looks great but unless they bring out a hardware controller, and add VST support plus a whole lot more features the 2 products are in a different league.

Re: How much value is in online tutorials? Which ones?
I agree with the previous posters. I'm a past (and future) Quantize student. You won't find a better course on Ableton or music production. The level of individual attention you get and the standard of tuition with Quantize is unmatched. You should see a very definite improvement in your productions...

Re: where do all the bad sample packs actually come from??
Goldbaby, Riemann and Wave Alchemy all seem pretty reputable and good quality for me. Not mad on those "Minimal Techno Song Starters" type packs - very dodgy.

Re: upgrade Virus from Indigo to TI or jump ship?
I had 2 Viruses(classic and snow) and sold them both. They are decent synths (and the TI concept is amazing) but I found them a little tame in comparison to the Waldorf synths. Currently have a Blofeld and a MicrowaveXT which I get on with much better, but this is a personal preference thing.

Re: Opinions on these two options to use with Live?
The Maschine hardware is just a controller (albeit a very good one), so you can't use it without a computer - no harddrive or any DSP inside..just a controller. Having said that it's excellent and well worth the investment. You won't get anything like the experience with a bog standard midi controll...

Re: Small midi controllers?
I picked up the Nanokontrol on Friday and its a pretty decent bit of kit. I use it as a controller for Omnisphere and it's perfect for that purpose. The build quality is about on par with the Novation stuff - so pretty good for the price.
