Re: Support for Polyphonic Aftertouch
FWIW, this is what got me to buy Bitwig. Version 1.2 supports poly AT, and I'm enjoying using my CME XKey with, for example, u-he plugins to do some really expressive stuff. I'll still use Ableton Live, but lately it seems Bitwig cares about building features that are important to me and I've been u...

Re: Simplified color palette for Push user mode / custom devices
Good info, Deep Symmetry. Thanks for sharing! I'll give this a try next time I'm hacking on my Push.

Re: Support for Polyphonic Aftertouch
After wanting one for years, I finally got a keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch. Only to find out Abelton Live completely blocks me from using it because it ignores all poly AT messages. Seriously? Argh... Between this and the lack of MIDI channel support, Live's MIDI implementation is sadly lackin...

Re: How to control the Push LCD text with sysex messages
Thanks for the document. Nice reference. Regarding the lack of sysex support in Live, someone pointed me to these Max externals: http://cycling74.com/toolbox/midi-inout-for-maxforlive/ However, I am under the impression they only work with certain versions of OS X (maybe not Mountain Lion?) and not ...

How to control the Push LCD text with sysex messages
I haven't found any info on this, so tonight I reverse engineered my Push LCD screen. An invaluable tool was MIDI Monitor (http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/), which allows me to spy of the Push "Live Out" MIDI port. A single 77 byte sysex message sets the text for a single line. Each line...

Re: Using the Touch Strip to control Mod wheel in a synth?
Here's a simple M4L device I was using tonight to use the pitch bend strip as mod wheel for DIVA: ----------begin_max5_patcher---------- 472.3ocyVF0SCBCDG+Y3SQSiOhKq.CV7M8qgwX5FcZMPKosaNcwu61d.Smht 51D8gQo2cz6+8C50sIL.OStlownKPWiBB1DFD.lbFBZmGfqnqmWR0PX3JlVS uigiZ7YXqMfcB5LRmQdAXRN6gym1YagTXDzJF34RE...

Re: Simplified color palette for Push user mode / custom devices
i think both approaches have merit. Absolutely! Since I'm looking at porting some stuff I did for the Launchpad, right now I'm happy to have just a few more colors that are easily distinguishable. I may be too hung up on this at the moment. The super-simplified hi/lo palette I just posted may be to...

Re: Simplified color palette for Push user mode / custom devices
If you want to build a very usable, high-contrast interface with Push, I think what I proposed above still has too many colors. I decided to go with a simpler bright/dim approach instead of bright/normal/dim. And I tweaked a few of the color choices. To help remember an ordering of values, I've been...

Re: Simplified color palette for Push user mode / custom devices
I am glad people find this useful :) I spent the afternoon testing this to see if all the colors are easily-distinguishable. I tried taking some photos to share, but they don't look anything like the real thing. Anyway, I'm happy to report this color palette looks pretty good on my Push. There is ju...

Simplified color palette for Push user mode / custom devices
I'm starting to update some of my Max for Live Launchpad devices to work with Push. It took a while to figure out how I want to use Push's button colors. There are potentially 128 different colors available, but most are too similar to be used effectively. I created a simplified palette for maximizi...

Force Push browser to show instruments instead of effects?
I have an EQ8 on every track but no instruments, in my default set. This saves a little time, because I always end up EQ'ing. With this setup, the first thing I want to do is add some instruments. But Push's browser only shows me effects. The manual states "What you see when in Browse Mode depe...

Having the racks locked is fine for my needs. Grabbing racks out of the lessons is a great idea, thanks!

Re: what instrument racks do all versions of Live 8 have?
That's always an option, of course. But I was hoping to have a .als file that anyone with Live 8 could open and press play and hear something, without having to install anything extra. I guess I'll stick with this Simpler piano instrument.

what instrument racks do all versions of Live 8 have?
I want to make an example Live Set to demonstrate some techniques and share with other people. But I was not sure what instruments I could use and have it work in Live "lite", standard, and suite. I have the suite, so it's hard to tell. Simpler seems like a safe bet, but I want something m...
