I've recently become a fan of Dieter Meier from Yello. Huge body of work, and highly skilled.

Re: Audio Question: Scarlett 2i2 vs. Sound Card
I am going to be sending vocal tracks to people... I wouldn't worry too much about the vocal tracks having some low end presence. If you're sending your vocal tracks to an audio engineer, they'll know how to fix them, if needed. The changes you make with your limited knowledge of EQ might make thin...

Re: Getting into Vinyl Sampling
If you get an analog turntable you'll need a phono preamp too, or use a DJ mixer with phono inputs. In my opinion the most important piece of a turntable is the cartridge and stylus (needle). What's your budget? Regardless, if you're looking to do it right, take your time, keep researching, and save...

Re: NEED HELP USING (UN)ABLETON
Not much info to go on, but here are some suggestions: - On the Audio Hub check that the input indicator is lighting up green or red, which shows an audio signal from the decks. If needed, use the Hub's gain control to boost the signal. - Turn on the Input Monitor switch on the Hub, and check that y...

Re: Using midi over USB question
USB hubs don't know anything about midi. They just allow you to connect multiple devices to a computer. It's the midi device (like one of your synths) and the computer that know, and communicate, midi.

Connect the turntable to the mixer, which acts as the preamp, and then connect the mixer to your laptop, or to the audio interface you have connected to your laptop.

Re: fx send on clip
Ableton Live does not do per-clip FX. Put FX on the return tracks and automate the send knobs for each track needing an effect. Put FX on a clip's track and automate the power button on the FX device, or wet/dry mix if it has it. Record the clip with FX to a new audio track and use it instead. Use a...

Try putting a Utility device before the effects on the return track, and turn up the Utility's gain as needed.

Re: Looking for tips on processing vocals in for Tech House
I listened to the track. The vocal effect you're trying to create can be done with crossfade looping and an amp envelope in a sampler followed with a ton of reverb. No need for stretching.
Just play around with the loop start/end point positions of a sustained vocal note in the sampler.

Re: Using external hardware synth and mixer
Sounds like you want to use Live as an external effects processor for your synth. Like yur2die4 said, using an Insert on the mixer requires a special insert audio cable too work, and you won't be able to control the amount of the audio signal sent to Live from the mixer. You'll have to control the a...

Re: Your tips for chords...
How do you mean it limits you to a particular scale? If you look at one end of the keys on the keyboard it's the edge of each white key in equal distance, but If you look at the top part, the mixture of both the black and the white keys are all approximately the same width apart. If you line the ed...

Re: Your tips for chords...
When I first started out, I taped a few 3x5 index cards together, put it above the keys on my keyboard controller, and used a marker to map out the minor scale on one side and the major scale on the other. Then I just connected the dots to play chords, and create melodies. It limits you to a particu...

@Scrunchy check out the tutorials here: https://www.ableton.com/en/help/learn-live/
And start with a simple setup without the mixing desk. Once you have Live working with just your audio interface, then incorporate the mixing desk.

Re: External FX unit as Return
Yeah, his intensions are vague. Here's how I would route it. Safire (Out 1/2, RCA jacks) --> Folio (2TK In, RCA jacks, Level assigned to Mix) Safire (Out 3/4) --> Folio (In 1/2) Folio (Out Sub-mix) --> Safire (In 1/2) Folio (Out Aux 1, 2, or 3) --> 1202 (In) 1202 (Out) --> Folio (In 15/16 or 19/20) ...
