Re: Drum Rack Volume via Midi Controller

A Drum Rack can always be unfolded in the Ableton mixer - all the filled cells will show up as individual channels. Any controller that can address individual channels should work.

Re: Recording sound in the system after stopping the sequencer

If you are wanting to export a track or mix that has delay or a reverb tail hanging over the end, just select a few extra bars to export. So, if your song is 64 bars long, select 65 or 66 bars before exporting in order to capture the hanging-over audio.

Re: Automatically Switching Time Signatures in Session View

Have you looked into ClyphX? I'm just going off the top of my head as I don't have Ableton running in front of me right now, but I'm pretty sure ClyphX would give you the ability to set up a Session-view clip which would change your time sig and/or tempo. Combine that with Follow Actions, and I'm th...

Re: connecting nord stage as a midi keyboard in abelton live

You don't need to find it in the control surface list. You can test to see if Ableton is recognizing it by playing a few notes - if Ableton sees it, you should see orange lights in the rightmost part of the transport bar all the way on the right, next to where it says "MIDI". You can also look for t...

Re: How to route a return channel's signal into a group?

Auto2000 - From the Ableton manual, p.224: "Soloing a clip track leaves any return tracks audible, provided that the Solo in Place option is enabled in the Solo button’s [right-click](PC) / [CTRL-click](Mac) context menu. Solo in Place can also be set as the default behavior by selecting the entry i...

Re: How to route a return channel's signal into a group?

Return tracks have an "Audio To" drop-down menu, just like all other tracks. You should be able to create your "Return Group" track as an audio track, and then set the "Audio To" of each of your return tracks to "Return Group." If I understood your question, that should give you the result you're lo...

Re: How to integrate Motu 828k3 "Cuemix" software with Live.

Martin, It doesn't sound like CueMix has much to offer for your proposed use-case. CueMix is useful for setting up complex routing/monitoring configurations, but that's not really what you're after. Unless you are trying to send multiple outputs to different monitor mixes or outboard gear, you can i...

Re: powering off maschine

Just ordered one of these: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1620 Hopefully it works well. Cool find. Let us know if it does work. Hi cyclicAMP, FYI, this switch is not working for me. The MK2 gets power, and turns on/off, but it won't send or receive MIDI. Niether Ableton nor Maschine 2 in standalo...

Re: Metronomes through second soundcard, or equivilant

If you are on Mac OSX and using the CoreAudio driver, you can create what's called an "aggregate device" which will combine your interface with the built-in output. Then you can just send your click to only the built-in headphone jack.

Re: Let's talk field recorders

I love my Tascam DR40. I've had it for a couple of years, use for everything from field recording to documenting band rehearsals to quick-and-dirty live show recording. The built-in mics are surprisingly good (for plastic POSes), but the fact that you can plug in "real" mics (and even phantom power ...

Re: toggle EQ8 filter points?

You should be able to MIDI- or keyboard-map the on/off state to a key, button, or MIDI note. true - but only for one instance of eq8 :? Are you sure about that? I was just able to map a series of keyboard keys to turn on/off filters on several EQ8 devices on different tracks. If you are MIDI-mappin...

Re: Newbie Workflow Question

Not sure if there's an official name for it, but the filter functionality you are describing is pretty straightforward to set up in Ableton. I would put two filters on a track, one a hi-pass and one a low-pass, and then map a single knob so that it controls the low-pass when turned counter-clockwise...
