Re: Ableton Rig Setup Q/A
I've used the FCB1010, but I like Keith McMillian's SoftStep MUCH better. First, the Behringer is ridiculous to program. The SoftStep is easier. It's also more expressive if you need it to be. Each of the pads can be used in multiple ways. It's smaller and lighter as well. The downside is that it's ...

Re: Quick USB hub question
No - sorry I wasn't clear. The SoftStep is bus powered. I just wanted to know if it was going to be too much for one hub to power the LEDs on both.

Quick USB hub question
I'd like to get a USB hub so I can use my Push and SoftStep on one port and my USB audio interface on another port. Does the hub have to be powered or can I use any non-powered hub? Does it depend on if the Push is plugged into AC power? Thanks very much.

Re: Any way to make a custom push scale
I wrote a max for live patch called BiModal that allows for custom 7 note scales for Push. It also handles midi control of scale modes and keys. You can find it on my website (http://adamjberkowitz.com).

Re: Fade IN and Fade out on effects
Ok. I have a better idea of what you're after now. I'm not at my computer at the moment, but in Live 9 you can record automation of effects into session view clips. Another approach would be to set up a set of "dummy clips". It involves creating silent clips that only have envelopes and ro...

Re: Fade IN and Fade out on effects
I think I slightly misunderstood what you were asking for. Reverse the "fade" lines in the device chain. So the "Wet" chain should look like this > and Dry should look like this <. That way when you turn the macro knob, it will fade the effect out. It's ok that there are no effec...

Re: Developing an Ableton Curriculum
I'm a self taught Live user as well. My background is in music education and performance though and I think this looks like a good idea. As a teacher I would say that you should start with the goal and work backwards. If I were doing what you propose I'd show demonstrate a full song first. From ther...

Re: Fade IN and Fade out on effects
One way to do this would be with an effect rack. 1 - Group the effects (cmd-G). This automatically creates a rack with eight macros. 2 - On the left side of the rack you'll see three "buttons" under the on/off button in the title bar. 3 - Turn them all on and you'll see a label marked chai...

Re: live.dial step size?
The encoders on the Push are sending out float values. I've found this to be extremely annoying while patching. I haven't found a good solution yet either. However, you might try a [scale] to translate the values of 0.-127. But that didn't work for me because I wanted to "see" the value on...

Yeah. I just tried that and it gave me id 0. Honestly I'm not wen sure what show_loop is supposed to do. It just looked interesting.

Clip.View from LOM Changes Live 8 ->9
Can anyone help me understand how to get to the Clip.View that's mentioned in the LOM change doc? Based on Track.View from the original LOM I'd think I could send [live.path] a "live_set tracks N clip_slots M clip view" message but I can't seem to get any results. I'd like to experiment wi...

Re: Push Cover / Stand
I just made this stand by taking a regular music stand (with a locking pivot), drilling through the bottom to make pass-throughs, and making a frame out of a 1"x2" board which I spray painted and secured with velcro strips. It can be used at a wide range of angles and is solid. https://www...

Thanks. I just downloaded it and took a quick look. He uses a few calls I recognize, but I'll dig into it more when I've got a bit of time.
