On the other hand, Ableton has a very impressive record when it comes to upgrading their products. I woulnd't be surprised that within a few months, Recycle support in Live is a fact.

Live needs something of a Rex/loop player with editing and slicing capabilities like Native Instruments Intakt but also with the possibility to copy a patern into the clip view as a midi notes. Sure it's possible to work with Recycle in Ableton but the methods decribed above are more or less work-arounds. You should be able to drag a Rex file into a midi lane and "copy pattern to track" á la Reason, so that every slice is represented by a midi note in the clip view. Then you can ...
