Re: Using 2 Audio Interfaces as one

As for your Tascam, depending on the Tascam (is it ADAT / SPDIF? ) and your sound card hardware (optical/spdif connections?), you could connect it to your sound card and expand it by 2-8 audio in/outs. The Tascam is my sound card and yes it has a pair of coaxial SPDIF ports, 1 in and 1 out. However...

Re: Using 2 Audio Interfaces as one

Wondering if this https://www.amazon.com/Zoom-U-44-Channe ... +Interface will solve my problem. Kinda worrying about how to get ADA Clocks in sync.

Re: correct gain staging in live

I would think that gain staging would involve adjusting the signal gain to the mixer so as to get unity gain in each of the tracks initially. Then the mixer's volume faders can be used to control the levels of the mix.

Remember that gain relates to how hot the signal is going into the DAW, IMO.

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

Nokatus tried, but his analogy of the scanner was only good for trying to explain how the wave "passes through" our ears, but seemed to strengthen my skewed argument. Because that was how I was seeing it. Like feeding a foolscap paper through a scanner, but having only letter size paper for it to b...

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

Yes, discussions like these are very helpful. Da Hand and fishmonkey somehow was able to give me a good picture. Although all the others tried. The key word for me was that the wave is not "static". and that the room itself is not vibrating. Nokatus tried, but his analogy of the scanner was only goo...

Using 2 Audio Interfaces as one

Any ideas here? Can it be done? Been doing some research, mostly you tube, but nothing practical yet. My problem is that I have an old reliable Tascam 144 and want to add more output ports to my setup. Probably there is another way to get this done. Of course it may time to upgrade anyhow. Looking a...

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

Your point is taken Nokatus. I was wrongly theorizing that the intensity of the displacement of the air particles that are propagating the wave would give our ears the same experience of the frequency even before the wave has been completed. However, I am still not seeing any explanation as to how o...

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

yep, what he said. you are thinking about a sound wave as a static/standing wave, when it is actually flowing back and forth, past and through you. of course, in a room you are hearing a bunch of reflections and interactions of the waves too, so that can mess things up really badly. however, in mos...

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

you can check other forums as Gearslutz (they have a dedicated subforum to acoustic treatment) and KVRaudio (they have lots of dedicated subforums). And then come back to Live forum. I like it here, wish I didn't have to leave. Why couldn't we have a dedicated subforum like the rest? That's my point.

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

Which leads me to an offshoot of this: In a room smaller than the one in the OP, would it be practical to use a subwoofer? Would there be any usable signal to monitor at that frequency and below?

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

You don’t need to experience an entire cycle of a wave to hear it. Accepted, But hear it as what? And I suggested that we hear it as distortion or only in terms of the other sinusoidals that make it up. Because within that room it would not have completed a full cycle, so it must be unidentifiable....

Re: So called "Music and Audio Production"

Well, the peeps that know me here will know that I tend to come up with some seemingly absurd observations and arguments. There are so many things I can think of to start an argument, but just off the bat: Say, I have a room and none of it's individual dimensions is bigger than 18 ft. and by my reck...

So called "Music and Audio Production"

Don't mean to be offensive, but being from the old school, I like to just hit the nail on the head. Been finding it hard to find any threads that are directly related to the captioned sub-forum. This category should be split up into at least 10 sub-forums. I use Live for studio work. Would love to s...
