Re: In praise of the .alp format

:D I think the amount of space saving is quite material-dependent, I’ve had compressed sizes well under half the original size before, but this is a new “personal best”. This was a “song of two halves” with half the tracks having no content in the the first half and the others no content in the 2nd....

In praise of the .alp format

Just sayin’... I just made up a stems package of a track for remixing: 24 tracks of stereo 24bit stems for 6mins. The resulting project was 2.3GB, when packed as an .alp it came down to 330MB!! Live must do some very clever ignoring of silent sections, followed by its lossless compression. Impressiv...

Re: How does Live differentiate between MIDI devices with same name?

I get a similar quirk with two Novation controllers, I have an SL25Mk2 and and SL61Mk2. Often one keyboard will be recognized as the other model by Live, which breaks the MIDI input assignments in saved sets. I have to be very careful to plug each kbd only into specific USB ports for it to be recogn...

Re: Why No Send/Return Track Clips for Looping Automation?

A way to achieve this is to set up a MIDI loopback, where you send MIDI out of Live and back in again to control return tracks. This can be either a software MIDI routing such as the IAC bus on Mac or MIDI Ox/Yoke on PC. You can use a physical MIDI interface as well. Check this: https://forum.ableto...

Re: Tips for saving CPU in a large Live set

Something that can sometimes help with glitches when you launch Scenes is to remove the stop buttons on tracks that don’t need them. Depending on the set, not having all the stops fire as you trigger the horizontal row can sometimes help.

Just something to try...

Re: greyed out searched files ?

If you can see the file you want in Finder, drag and drop it onto the same grayed-out “missing” file name in the Manage Files list. This will prompt Live to search for all the other missing files in the same Finder location.

Re: Transfer all of Ableton from one Mac to another?

Is there a specific reason you don’t want to to a full-slather Time Machine clone of your old world on to your new Mac? Or a Migration Assistant transfer from your old SSD?

These would seem to be the easiest ways to ensure continuity of, well... everything?

Re: Matching recorded return track audio with original

As you record your Return tracks to Audio Tracks, make sure that the sends on the Audio (recording) track are disabled (rightclick, Disable All Sends). If the sends on the recording track are enabled while recording Return channels, it introduces an offset. I think it’s because Live pre-buffers, or ...

Re: Autopan problem

This is normal, and expected behavior when panning. Simply put the Autopan in a Rack by selecting it and hitting CNTRL-G / command-G, then bump up the Chain output level to taste. Usually +3db if you have the pan depth at 100.

Click the little headphone icon, upper left above the keyboard in your first pic. Now you’ll hear your notes as you edit or create them.

Re: Novation Launchkey vs APC Key - minis

When I went to buy a mini 2 octave keyboard I tried 3: the launchkey mini the apc key and another small akai. It was immediately apparent the apc key has much better build quality. The keys don’t wiggle around like loose teeth and the action feels much more solid than the other two. That alone clinc...
