DVI is a digital connection, VGA is analog - always use DVI if you can (it's a good feature of the macbooks). 1680 x 1050 resolution is no problem.

Shift-Ctrl-Alt-Tab flips around Session View so you can see all the cables that connects clips together. Some of the big racks have fans too...
