providing you aren't actually going to SELL your rhodes away for an emulation (or if you do, you sell it for me cheap, heheh)... google for all these, i'm really too tired and depressed to do that myself now. the software / sample emu that sounds closest to original rhodes that i've heard so far is ...

sheesh. two different apps, two different uses.

most people won't argue that digi is a dinosaur and their hardware sux, but then again, lots of people will admit that the pt software is ace for editing / postprod.

then again, some hate it.

- latency that the transfer of audio data to and from the dsp card causes
- rewriting the dsp code to run on a dsp chip instead of a standard cpu
- pci, firewire and usb2 all have their problems and none of them would support all the systems you can run live on now

you WILL want a gigabyte of memory for music use / running live and it doesn't hurt otherwise either.

my advice is to go for the more expensive option - the cpu power difference might not make a huge difference but the amount of memory will.

the prelistening is done via the cue channel whose volume can be controlled with the cue volume knob - the one around the master output with the headphone logo in it. that's how it's in live 5 at least, AFAIR it was same in live 4.

the sound quality is fine, the drivers are damn solid and overall i'm happy with mine. been using it for a few months now at home and on gigs and it hasn't failed me in any way yet. however, if you're not planning to transport it i'd suggest looking to 828mk2. it sounds as good (and nobody really ne...

i think the tc native comp is the only proper sidechainable comp live users can have on osx at the moment. on pc there's the voxengo crunchessor, kjaerhus has a good comp with sidechain / key input and i think there are at least a few more than that. AFAIR voxengo guy has been talking about having t...

out of the material i've tested live5 with (i'm more of a producer but i've toyed around with the dj aspect of live too) even the complex warp mode doesn't sound so good on whole tracks IMO. you will definitely hear it on good quality monitors like the mackies and you can hear it even on normal home...

have you tried trashing the live5 preferences? it might help to some problems. there's tips on how to do it on this somewhere here - basically it involves either deleting or renaming your live preference files so live can recreate them from scratch. also, there's the 5.0.2 bugfix version beta posted...

i think debug code should never be running on release versions, only the betas. so 5.0.1 doesn't have it running, 5.0.2b3 does.

i THINK that doesn't work in live5 anymore though. at least if you want to map a midi controller to certain range of tempo, you have to do it by assigning a controller to the master tempo and selecting the range from the controller assignment extra box (whatever it's called) in the bottom of live sc...

i've managed to get live5 crash with sampletank 2 free several times myself on this setup. don't know how to reproduce it but it definitely seems to be about st2. have to look into it later.

on osx / my setup it doesn't completely freeze the computer. live just eventually crashes and quits.

evon, yep the reason i was asking is that (if you didn't know this already) things will definitely sound a lot different with mono in almost any case (except if you're really making music in mono from the start) and you can lose elements too if there's bad luck - certain stereo things and tricks don...
