Yes - so I definitely had the clip selected when I midi triggered the button.

Ok - I believe that's what I was doing but I'll try again today after work!

Can't you open the sample in an external sample editor that you specify in your preferences? Just have that running alongside Live so you don't have to restart it all the time.
