Re: Ethnic Drums

any particular ethnicity? all drums played by human beings are "ethnic" since we all belong to one or more ethnic groups. if you narrow it down, we might be able to point you in the right direction. i use live suite's drum kits for north american rock and blues as well as various latin and south ame...

Re: number of tracks

can you make techno with eight tracks? sure.

some of the best techno i've heard is two tracks: a drum machine on one track and a bass synth or a sampler on another track.

Re: Gain Staging Help Please!

i make low end-heavy stuff (jungle, dub, etc) in my headphones, directly plugged in to the macbook pro's headphone jack. i work at roughly 1/3 the available system volume because my aging ears get fatigued easily. my music sounds great on a loud system with good bass. so, it can be done. like any st...

Re: External instrument track (RD-8) track volume very low

i recently had an issue like this and i resolved it once i realized i had mistakenly mixed up my TRS and TS cables when plugging in a synth. if the RD-8 is like most drum machines you should use a TS/mono cable from the outputs to your audio interface.

Re: Help me search for an iMac

FWIW with that budget, and the fact that you already have a second display, have you considered a mac mini instead? a mac mini could offer a more recent option with better specs. aim for better RAM and speed; supplement with an external drive to make up for shortcomings in hard drive space.

Re: Simpler - preview sliced breakbeats? Alternative method?

Thanks for the comments so far. I agree that while the Simpler slicing feature was a good idea, the implementation leaves a bit to be desired. I'd still rather go with Simpler than slicing to MIDI, however. For now it seems like the best way to deal is to put all of the wavs into a "Breaks" folder a...

Simpler - preview sliced breakbeats? Alternative method?

After years of slicing and re-slicing my collection of breakbeats from scratch (usually via "slice to drum rack") I thought I'd take advantage of the slicing and warping of Simpler to streamline my workflow. So, now I have a folder full of Simpler presets with sliced breaks, but they're all saved as...

Re: Applying Grooves from the Pool via Push??

This is one of the main reasons I have held off on Push. I was really hoping to see it implemented with L10.

Re: about to experiment with DnB...

Here's how I do it; this is for chopping breaks rather than programming a beat from individual hits. 1. Start with a breakbeat you like. You can find all the classic breaks online with a minimal amount of googling, or you can sample whatever break you'd like from a song you have. 2. Put it in an Aud...

Re: Four Tet deconstruction thread

I make beats like this pretty frequently. My approach is grabbing multiple percussion breaks from old records and then layering until the various bits bounce and shuffle against each other in very "human" sorts of ways. You can achieve a similar effect with beats you've created that are more perfect...

My understanding from inside sources is that it will only run on Apple's OS X versions 10.4 and later, and must be used on your mom's computer.

OS X has had .zip compatibility built in since 10.3. If it still isn't working for whatever reason...
