Re: Simpler - preview sliced breakbeats? Alternative method?

Thanks for the comments so far. I agree that while the Simpler slicing feature was a good idea, the implementation leaves a bit to be desired. I'd still rather go with Simpler than slicing to MIDI, however. For now it seems like the best way to deal is to put all of the wavs into a "Breaks" folder a...

Simpler - preview sliced breakbeats? Alternative method?

After years of slicing and re-slicing my collection of breakbeats from scratch (usually via "slice to drum rack") I thought I'd take advantage of the slicing and warping of Simpler to streamline my workflow. So, now I have a folder full of Simpler presets with sliced breaks, but they're all saved as...

Re: Applying Grooves from the Pool via Push??

This is one of the main reasons I have held off on Push. I was really hoping to see it implemented with L10.

Re: about to experiment with DnB...

Here's how I do it; this is for chopping breaks rather than programming a beat from individual hits. 1. Start with a breakbeat you like. You can find all the classic breaks online with a minimal amount of googling, or you can sample whatever break you'd like from a song you have. 2. Put it in an Aud...

Re: Four Tet deconstruction thread

I make beats like this pretty frequently. My approach is grabbing multiple percussion breaks from old records and then layering until the various bits bounce and shuffle against each other in very "human" sorts of ways. You can achieve a similar effect with beats you've created that are more perfect...

My understanding from inside sources is that it will only run on Apple's OS X versions 10.4 and later, and must be used on your mom's computer.

Re: I must be missing something....recreating a synth sound

The synth at the beginning of that Bon Iver tune is a slightly brassy-sounding pad with a low pass filter on it. The key is going to be using more than one voice and then detuning the voices slightly in opposite directions, which will give it a sense of width and wavery pitch. (You could boost that ...

Re: What is this synth??

It's a synth patch made using (i think) a combo of square and saw waves, one with a quick, percussive envelope and the others with a shortish decay but long sustain, each detuned slightly, and filtered using a low pass filter with a steep decay, probably no sustain. As the filter frequency knob is t...

Re: :: Is a mix this good, possible in Ableton? :::

The secret to making a good mix in Live is to unlock the "Heavy Mix" weapon by completing level 3-2 a second time through the cloud passage and defeating the secret Lizard Boss with the Zamfir wand. The key combo to make it happen is tricky but you can find it using google or in the latest issue of ...

Re: Struggling to get gapless Audio playback on a mix CD...

If you're willing to have just a single audio file, you could try ripping the CD in iTunes as a single long track. 1. Insert CD 2. When/if it asks if you'd like to add the album to iTunes click "No" 3. Highlight all tracks (select all) 4. From the Advanced menu pick "Join CD Tracks" 5. Now rip it to...

Re: the future of hip hop is at 140 bpm

I know you all slept on them back in the 80s, but this crew had the most style and finesse the rap game ever saw. They were really cooking, no doubt. I think Rakim, KRS, and Big Daddy Kane have all cited this crew as influential to their styles. Anyway, listen to this classic. It's hot. http://www.y...
