I'd recommend a mac - switching from pc to mac was best thing i ever did. I had to go back to using windows at work and it drove me mad as there is so much good software that's only available for the mac. There's nothing that i'd want to use that's pc only, other than a few plugins. I really can't u...

There should be brightness controls on the keyboard, normally f1 and f2. they should turn down the brightness right down till the screen is black

Is there a master pitch control in ableton?

My set suddenly seems to be slightly out of tune, is there any way I could have changed the master pitch. My synths are no longer at concert pitch, and sound about half a semitone out from everything i'm playing over. hmmm

Excellent dude, Cheers for opening my eyes - I hadn't even considered using dummy clips with scratching. Having a delay on the last cut/word of a live input is something i've been wanting to figure out. I did hear something about a ducking(?) delay that only triggers when the sound stops, but this s...

Questions about dummy clips and live vocals...

Hey dudes, I've just been booked for what should be my biggest gig since I started using ableton. This time instead of doing a straight dj set i'm going to be doing it with a live mc/scratch dj. This is going to the most complex set I'll ever have done, something similar to the prodigy - dirtchamber...

Yeah, i use them in the edit suites at work and in my home studio, don't think i'll ever go back to using the mouse. They make take a small amount of getting used to, but it's worth it. I'd recommend getting one like the expert mouse which has a very large trackball, not too keen on the smaller ones.

Something I just discovered - if you are using expose to show all the windows press the spacebar when the cursor is over the window that you want to go to, it will go instantly to that window without having that little pause and flash thing that it normally does. The same works when you are dragging...

You need to Render to Disk - this will export a wav file. You can then convert it to an mp3 using itunes or something similar.

I just made mine with iWeb, it's pretty basic software but you can make a really nice looking site very easily. I don't have the time or the urge to learn how to use dreamweaver, so it's perfect for me. It is just as simple as dragging and placing images and text, then hitting the publish button. It...

Yeah I agree, It would be very useful for dropping in loops on the fly in the correct key. I often drop in loops from old rock tunes and stuff as well.
Anything that makes you more aware of the key of the different elements of your music has got to be a good thing!

If Ableton was to have some kind of key calculation feature, surely this would happen at the same time as it analyzes the track before you warp it, so if you've already got it in ableton then it only takes you 10 seconds to work out the key yourself. It would be useful if ableton had such a feature,...

Yeah I guess a lot of these bits of software are making it easier for people with no talent to call themselves a dj or whatever. You're right - if i'm not a dj what am I? I have been billed as playing "live" on several occassions, which I wouldn't say is always true either. I don't really ...

Yeah man, a lot of the time the crowd won't really notice if a mix is harmonic or not. So my efforts may be wasted on most people, but if someone comes up to me after after to complement my mixing then it's all worth it.

i don't understand either, and who the hell wants to mix in key ALL the time anyway, most DJ sets are already super boring because of to much harmony anyway. why not mixing, jamming and rocking a floor in a hospital, at least you can be shure that it is very clean indeed. damn get skills, and ROCK,...

yeah, i just see it as more of a time saver. It's a bit like the fact that you don't have to beatmatch with live. I just see beatmatching and working out the key of tracks as a laborious task that anyone can learn, the skilled bit is what you do with them after that. So if there's something that giv...
