so i guess he starts both on their own, sends midi via something like midiyoke, sets one as midiclock master the other as midiclock slave etc.

afaik the vst-plugin doesn't send midi-out. you can't specify midi-out ports in vst mode ..so .. you would have too chose the same midi-in port in live as you have set up the midi out in maschine...
so sorry, i think it won't work

I have mine set up like above, just without scene and clip triggering (launchpad for that). But one could do even more with mackie control (text feedback on the maschine) and further scripting (moving rectangle for clips), but I'm counting on stray for this

Yeah, with the right ableton/maschine template (and eventually bome's midi translator) I guess this would be possible. you can't add instruments or effects in ableton without using the mouse though.
