If you want to go heavy on the midi processing and controller communication, you should go to the remote scripts direction and not MAX/MSP.

It uses the Live API, but with Python. It will help you taking full control of your BCR the way you want.

I like these collection of modules:

They have: a standardized GUI, careful testing, easy patch management.

But, they are not for M4L. However, I don't see why they couldn't be ported...

I confirm the tutorials are not available in Live 9 beta for me either.
