Why would the soundcard latency improve from one version to the next using the same soundcard?
It does not. In Live 5.0.1 the overall compensation value is only a value to manual compensate the difference between the reported latency from the audio interface and the "real" latency ...

what is the PC equivalent to the G4 1,67ghz


There isn't an equivalent PC to that for sale today.... they're all much faster.


Maybe if you went back 5 years you'd find something comparable. My desktop computer is over 5 years old, and it runs this performance test about the same as the G4 ...

How do I update from Live 5.0.1 (Mac version) ? Just download live 5.0.2 demo and install it?

I get 80 % with a 1,67hz Powerbook, OSX 10.4.2 and 1,5gb ram ! I have the processor to highest. What am I doing wrong ? Is something wrong with my computer ? Should I reinstall the OS ? Are there any tricks to improve performance ?

Not your RAM... you've got plenty. PowerBooks are just slow. This test is showing why Apple is switching to Intel CPUs.


Well, I'm comparing with other Powerbooks as mine. I know Macs are slow.
Other people get 66% with exactly the same ...

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter: 80% !!! (why?!)
2) Make/Model: Apple Powerbook G4 15"
3) Operating System: OSX 10.4.2
4) CPU Make Model and Speed: G4 1.67ghz
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram: 1.5GB / DDR333
6) Soundcard: Stock Core Audio card
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed: 5400rpm

Is it bad ram ? Should ...

Does software have a garanty like any piece of hardware?...

(even with latest NI bug fix) Mac OS Panther

When I'm loading certain patches, I get a "file not found searching database" error that I don't get in other apps. The system just hangs, cancel doesn't work, and Live crashes.

The files are out there in Finder, so I know there isn't really a file ...
