Re: Pattern sequencers

Play back an audio sample triggered from my midi kbrd with control over the rate (tempo) of the playback of that sample using an assigned pot on my kbrd.

Play a sample with Sampler or Simpler and just midi-map a knob of your controller to Transpose?

Re: How do you record electric guitar into Ableton?

If you're recording into Live, it's good to know that you can only record from one source.
So if you're using a jack etc in your input port, you can record from that, and it will not or even be able to record from the mic at the same time, too...only the source you've set in audio prefs.

Re: Packs install location when using two computers?

Should work on both comps.
I have my packs on one USB drive and I can access it with my two computers, only one of which was used to install the packs.

Re: Headroom/Mixing with a limiter

BTW, a little bonus tip: the Color Limiter of Live works way better than its regular Limiter (which mushes transients way too much). You can get OK master limiting results with Color Limiter of you share the limiting between a few instances, don't go super loud (like EDM loud) and are fine with the ...

Re: Headroom/Mixing with a limiter

A Limiter does not have to bring up the gain at all. It can just kiss the transients, like I suggested (and what you suggest is similar). It's up to each producer if a limiter is part of the sound or not or how and when one may use a limiter. The people I send mixes to recommend keeping master buss...

Re: Headroom/Mixing with a limiter

The consensus on most things I read is that you should keep about -6db of headroom when making a track. I know that this means the volume of the master channel should not be going over -6db at any point. However, is this BEFORE or AFTER a limiter is applied to the master channel? I.e., should I be ...

Yes, that^ is a great feature.
I've always been baffled as to why it's not an official feature.

Re: Why I prefer Pro Tools for mixing instead of Ableton Live

Good for you! I'm not however going to follow in your foot steps as I don't feel hampered by mixing in Ableton Live 10 at all. There are some limitations, but the only ones that have bothered me I've overcome by exploring the possibilities of the Live mixer or by using third party tools ( I use lot...

I'm giving out my sample pack for FREE till the end of 2016

https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a1392392043_10.jpg Hi guys! It's been a very good and productive year for me, and I feel like giving back a bit. So, I made my sample pack from 2015 FREE till end of 2016. It has breaks, basses, and pad sounds. Should be useful for an electronic music producer. It's had 1K...

Re: Post your most obscure Ableton Live knowledge

Image

When you hold CMD (Mac) and drag a transient, it locks the surrounding transients in place. Very handy, and won't mess up the nearby transient placement.

This allows for a floating mixer in a way...

Re: I want to quit.

You can't quit the shit you love.
Try it – you'll come back.
I've nearly quit a few times in moments of frustration, but when you shed off all unnecessary external bullshit around it all, it all comes back to the one thing: having fun.
