Well I answered my own question this morning and tried the Nocturn with Automap 3 on HUI mode

Works great - the Nocturn is now handier than ever.

nope, that's a battery problem you need to send it back and have it replaced but be quick! if you bought your Macbook when it was out (last year in MAY), you got a month left on your warranty! good luck (but you won't really need it, Apple is aware of this and has been replacing batteries for months)
