Re: Access Virus and Ableton Live 9?

I've owned every Virus, from Virus A back in the late 90s to a TI Polar and now a TI Snow. Personally, I think the Virus is still the best sounding synth there is. Easy to program and very flexible sound wise.

On my system the TI Snow seems to work well in Live 9.

Wow, dude you notice everything! :) That is an invention by my 7 year old daughter. I am supposed to put it in front of the computer while I play with her and it's going to continue working. I tell her it works great! :)

Re: Headphones for producing on the road

Ironically, I am not a big Bose fan either but after a friend of mine lend me his QC30 for some time, I was amazed at how well I could mix on them. I have never been able to mix well on headphones, but with the noise canceling Bose QC30 headphones I was able to mix almost as well as on my Meyer HD-1...

Re: Live 8 gets 64bit support.

This is what I love about Ableton! So many other companies out there make a huge deal out of the 64bit support and charge hundreds of dollars for the "upgrade" (Sonnox, Waves, etc.).

...If you want a nice audio interface because you need to record audio, I would go with the RME Babyface (I own and love this one!!) or the Apogee One or Duet. Apogee won't do you much good without a mac... Doh, of course you're right. I am a Mac user and even though I remembered ASIO4ALL forgot ab...

Re: Suggest a TINY sound interface

If all you worry about is your sound lagging I would try ASIO4ALL, which is a ASIO driver for onboard PC sound cards (www.asio4all.com). If you want a nice audio interface because you need to record audio, I would go with the RME Babyface (I own and love this one!!) or the Apogee One or Duet.

Re: Mac Mini 5th Generation

I use the latest Mac Mini Server i7 Quad Core and it's more powerful than my 2.8GHz 8-core Xeon Mac Pro which is powerful enough for all of my music needs. If you like Mac, imho you can't beat the $999 value!

Big fan of the "In the Studio With..." series. To this date I think the best one was with Matt Schwartz since he pretty much did an entire song from scratch. The Thomas Gold one was good too...

Re: Buying i5 Macbook Air for Ableton - Good Idea?

I have an early 13" 2011 MBP 2.3 i5. I got it instead of the air just for upgrading to Live. Honestly, I think I will sell it (the MBP) once the IvyBridge CPU's hit the airs next year. I'm curious though, for the 11" MBA, how many tracks with, say Live's reverb, can you run before it tops...

Re: Buying i5 Macbook Air for Ableton - Good Idea?

I guess the only thing I don't like about the MacBook Air in the studio is that the fan can get pretty noisy since it goes up to 6500rpm with bigger sessions. When I use it for mobile production I don't care about this since I use headphones. :)

Re: Buying i5 Macbook Air for Ableton - Good Idea?

I just did a performance check. http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=111880&start=630 Runs faster than my 15" 2,66 GHz MacBook Pro 2010. I am about to sell it and buy the Apple Thunderbolt Display instead. This way I have the portability of the MacBook Air and the screen size o...

Re: Things from this year that I wish I had learned earlier.

Sold my TI Polar a few months ago and don't miss it at all. As a matter of fact I am faster at making music because I don't have to deal with the "total integration"!

- things I've learned this year, as I do every year it seems... Less is more!
