My set up:
-PC, Windows Vista
-M-AUDIO MOBILE PRE USB Audio interface
-Live8 latest version
-Asio Drivers

It's probably something quite obvious, but when I record vocals with the mic, or guitar with the line in on my M-Audio preamp, I'm getting just one channel of audio. Can anyone suggest why that ...

I recently bought live 8, M-Audio USB Audio interface, I have the asio driver installed...a-a-a-and, all my audio inputs seem to be coming in on one channel only. Any forehead-slapping stupid thing I might be doing here?

I shall try what you suggest. I'd really like to think it's not ableton's fault, and I'm halfway convinced it isn't now.

I'll try a reinstall of my naff realtek soundcard's drivers. who knows, might work.

May i refer you to someone who posted earlier on this thread that they paid a fine to ableton to 'heal' their pc. Might be true, might not. But the 'fade out' warble I'm getting from mic-in recordings has the hall-marks of a ...

I downloaded a hacked version of Live 8 and yes...I've been stung by the anti-piracy measure that seems to have totally f***ed up my PC' soundcard.

So, I only had it coming, I accept that and humbly ask Ableton to forgive me for basically attempting to rip them off.
