I don't think this was an option in 10. I am on 10 and I don't have the option to set the default grid for new clips. It always defaults to "narrow" so maybe that's why you thought you had set it.

That's just how it works, unfortunately. Yeah, you'd expect muting a track with an external instrument would stop sending midi. But it only mutes the audio portion of the channel. I'd love to see a preference setting for this... "Track disarm mutes both midi and audio" or something. But ba...
