I would have put The Pixies and early REM in there but then I'd have to list another dozen bands and honestly, who has the time? I do think it's important to note that Thom Yorke and others from the newer British wave cite Michael Stipe and 80's and 90's indie and college rock from the U.S. as an in...

The Afghan Whigs do hold up well. I like to think that they were one of the last wave of bands who incorporated some unique part of their local scene in their songwriting and production (Cinci in this case). However, you're all mistaken if you think the 90's were just about Seattle. As usual, the 90...

does changing to thousands colors does really bring any feelable difference? Yes. Screen redraws are quicker. I've always noticed a measurable imrprovement on mac laptops with screen colors reduced. This is particularly so with the macbook because of it's "pirate video". I suppose I should also men...

I just set up a macbook last week for a friend. What system optimizations have you done? If none, start with downloading Onyx for 10.4. http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html Use Onyx to disable widgets. A check of system processes shows that they are not running in the background after using ...

Any compression in live will come after the signal is recorded. not if you use two tracks. one for the audio input + effects, then set a second track to record "audio from" the first track. voila, audio input recorded post-live effects. That's right....and it's fine for using Live's compressor as a...

You might not understand how your signal chain works. Any compression in live will come after the signal is recorded. If your external gear's output is too hot for your soundcard / interface, turn down the input gain first. Another option is to borrow or purchase an external compressor / limiter and...

I think the short answer is yes. Search the forum for other threads on looping. You may have to use a third party app for translating and combining midi messages. I can't recall the name of the program. I've done something very similar using just live and clip automation. Good luck and please post y...

I don't think it's fair to brand the audiophile as the problem. Why?...because I've been using the firewire audiofile for over a year in OS X 10.3.9 with absolutely no problems at all. I'll say it again, I've had no kernel panics or shutdowns of any kind in over a year. My setup is very modest - a g...

Individuals who use a crack are not the problem. People who host peer to peer cracks do much more damage. I agree with forge that ploy is one of those who will probably buy it. He just doesn't know it yet because his crack won't expire for another month or two. My understanding is that all of the ab...

I don't think he's merely triggering effects. There's a free set available as mp3 download here: http://www.overlap.org/ His performances have become very dense and increasingly balance improvised and composed elements. I personally hear a lot of Allan Holdsworth's chordal work in Willits but I'm bi...

Christopher Willits, my show this Sat. in Nashville
Browsing this afternoon led me to an interview with Christopher Willits. I've been following his work for a while now and knew he had a custom MAX system. Apparently, he is now using Live running custom plugs he write in MAX. Here's an excerpt of the section referencing Live. The link is below. ----...
